Dear Tashua Families,

This week, we celebrated “Read Across America” week! Throughout the week, our classroom teachers, Mrs. McKenna, Mrs. Thomas, Mr. Richard, Mr. Cohen, Mrs. Cassidy and I have planned many special events that were virtually shared with our students, motivating them to read and enjoy literature! We also had a special visitor, CT State Representative, David Rutigliano, who joined us virtually as we asked our students to take the Reader’s Oath. Please see the link below to enjoy these events.

Read Across America 2021

I am excited to share that our students have been working really hard at Tashua to “Earn Our Stripes,” by demonstrating the traits we value: Tolerance, Integrity, Generosity, Empathy, Responsibility and Self-Control. Currently, we have earned 47 stripes for our Tashua Tiger. We are very close to reaching our goal of earning 50 stripes, which will result in us having a school-wide celebration of a spirit week in early April.

On Thursday March 11th, we will have an early release day for afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences. If you will be meeting with your child's teacher for a conference, it would be beneficial for you to have a conversation with your child about his/her feelings and experiences at school.

Some questions you could ask that would prompt a thoughtful response could include:

· What is something exciting that you learned in school today?

· Tell me something that was easy for you to do today?

· What was something that was challenging for you to do at school today?

In addition, it would be helpful to prepare a list of topics that you want to discuss with the teacher or any concerns you might have. The following questions will help you to prepare for have a meaningful conversation with your child’s teacher.

· What are my child's strengths?

· What are my child’s challenges?

· Does my child hand homework in on time?

· Is my child participating in class discussions and activities?

· How are my child's social skills?

· Is my child striving to reach his/her full learning potential?

· What can I do at home to help support his/her academic progress?

If you have any concerns, it would be helpful to share these with your child’s teacher prior to the parent-teacher conference so he/she can prepare for a productive conversation.

While meeting with your child’s teacher, it will be important to keep the conversation focused on your child’s learning goals and listen carefully to the information your child’s teacher is sharing with you.

It will also be important for the teacher to know if your child is experiencing a difficult situation outside of school, such as any major changes in your family, any medical concerns, anything that is worrying your child or anything else that may affect his/her mood or behavior. Knowing of such changes will help the teacher provide the child with the necessary support in the classroom.

Remember, the conference time is limited so it will be important for you to arrive virtually on time so you and your child’s teacher don’t feel rushed when having this discussion. If you arrive late, your conference time will be shortened because other parents will be waiting to meet with the teacher following your conference.

Again, we thank you for your continued support and partnership in ensuring the success and happiness of our students. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, suggestions or good news to share.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Neumeyer

Updates and Reminders

Breakfast and Lunch: Reminder ALL children are eligible for breakfast and lunch. Food Services has three PICKUP Days per week (Monday, Wednesday & Fridays). Friday PICK UP includes Saturday and Sunday meals. You may drive around to the back of the school between the hours of 9:30-11:00 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to pick-up meals. Please take advantage of receiving these meals. In doing so, you are actually helping our district. Please know, for your convenience, Tashua families are allowed to pick up and distribute meals for other TPS students!

Accessing Remote Learning: The ability for students to access remote learning is reserved for those who are not feeling well, who are required to quarantine due to being exposed to a “close contact” of COVID-19 or have chosen to participate in Total Remote Learning. Unfortunately, vacation days do not support the need for accessing remote learning. I am sure you can appreciate the fact that inconsistencies in student attendance makes it extremely challenging for teachers to prepare for students who are in and out of the classroom at different times. Please know, students can be absent for up to 9 days due to the discretion of parents/guardians without needing to provide medical documentation.

Rescheduled Picture Day Retakes:

In-Person Learners: Thursday, March 11th. Families requesting retakes should return their unused packet of photos or order new photos by using the following link and photo code EVTFNQ4PF : https://my.lifetouch.com/mylifetouch/#/pictureDayId/EVTFNQ4P

Kindergarten Registration: Online registration can be accessed via the Trumbull Public Schools website under “General,” then “Student Registration.” A direct link to the form is available by clicking here. After completing the initial form, a parent/guardian will be contacted for additional information, including information regarding residency requirements. Please note that Kindergarten for 2021-22 is open to children born on or before January 1, 2017. Any questions can be directed to Maria Vaz, TPS Registrar, at 203-452-4348 or mvaz@trumbullps.org.
