BES March Parent Newsletter

Important Parent Info

Hello Lion Family!

We've had a great February and looking forward to finishing out the 3rd Nine Weeks with a Roar! As we roll into March, we are excited to kick-off Read Across America week! In the picture below, you can find we have lots of fun activities as we boost our TogetherWeREAD initiative! As we are promoting our focus on reading at school, we ask you to join in and set a time daily to read together with your child. Together we can move our family to new heights because when we work Together, We Roar!

The Counselor's Corner

BES Counselors were busy last month spreading the LOVE. We want to continue to encourage each student to look for ways to spread the love through random acts of kindness during the month of March. Snap a picture of your student holding the heart we sent home in February and we will display these acts of kindness in the hallways at school all this month. If you can’t get a picture, you can write what you did on the heart and send that in too! If you lost the heart we sent, don’t worry, we will take any heart you send as long as our students are spreading kindness!! Looking ahead to March, we are going to continue to encourage random acts of kindness. The upper grades will continue to work on their S.M.A.R.T. Goals. Our Kindergarten and 1st grade will review good listening skills and following directions, while 2nd and 3rd grade students will review positive classroom behavior and learn to implement positive study habits.

Notes from the Reading Specialist

Create a LOVE for READING in your home:

Why? I am glad that you asked...

  • Children who practice reading at least 15 minutes a day show greater gains leading to an increase in academic success
  • Strengthens the bond between you and your child
  • Builds knowledge and vocabulary
  • Strengthens social, emotional, and character development

  • Commit to a routine to take at least 15 minutes a day to STOP EVERYTHING AND READ
  • Find books that interest your child
  • Reread the same book or chapter to build confidence and gain a deeper understanding
  • Make reading fun - get creative (read a spooky story with a flashlight, read to sound like the characters, curl up a read in your pajamas, etc.)
  • Embed reading in everyday activities (signs, ads, recipes, etc.)
  • Have conversations about what you read
  • Do I do, we do, you do (I do - parent reads, we do - parent and child read together, you do - student reads)
