A Li'l Pirate Finds a Golden Doughnut
At Southside Elementary School, Resource Officer Al Smith presented Mrs. Lendry the very first Golden Doughnut Award. The Golden Doughnut Award recognizes outstanding contributions to school safety. Each month, the award will be passed to the next faculty or staff member that exhibits outstanding school safety practices.
Mrs. Lendry recently recognized an unfamiliar individual on campus who did not have either a faculty I.D. or a Visitor badge affixed to their person and called the front office. Mrs. Lendry reported the individual, provided a detailed description, and noted the last location in which she had observed him. As a result, the SRO was able to respond and ensure the individual did not have any bad intentions and subsequently instructed the individual on the appropriate procedure for entering the school campus.
This award recognizes those safe school contributions. Thank you, Mrs. Lendry, for being attentive, alert, and unafraid to report the suspicious person.
Breaking Barriers
Students in Ms. Beter's Learning Strategies class at Yulee High School completed a commercial project on barriers that famous people with disabilities (learning or physical) may encounter. The students spent a week completing research and then another week developing the commercial.
