As a reminder, the planning process for the next strategic plan has been ongoing and has included meetings with a variety of stakeholder groups and a Virtual Town Hall hosted on vbschools.com. The information gained from the input process has been incorporated into an online survey that will go live Feb. 18 and remain open until March 8.Monday, Feb. 18, all Virginia Beach City Public Schools staff members will receive an email that will explain the survey and include a link. You are encouraged to access and respond to the survey by March 8.
The survey link will be available on vbschools.com so that parents and community members may access the survey. Parents will be notified of the survey through an AlertNow email message sent by the Office of Planning, Innovation and Accountability.

DIGITAL LEARNING DAY
The Virginia Department of Education is encouraging all schools to participate in Digital Learning Day, Feb. 28. This event is designed to celebrate digital learning in addition to transformational teaching and learning practices. This is also a perfect time to revisit internet safety and digital citizenship. Visit Digital Learning Day to learn more about this event and Virginia Department of Education for other technology initiatives. Internet safety and digital citizenship resources have been curated by Instructional Technology Specialists and Library Media Specialists to share at each school.
Watch the announcements each day next week for a short digital citizenship video. Digital Learning Day is Thursday, February 28 with a focus on “What does it mean to be a leader of digital citizenship?” Share how your students are being good digital citizens and digital learners on Thursday using: Tag @OfficialDLDay #DLDay #digitallearning
Absences and substitutes
Please make sure that if you are going to be out sick that you put in your absences ASAP. It is important for us to have an opportunity to get those jobs filled and the earlier they are put in, the more likely it is for the job to be picked up. The morning of an absence and the closer it is to your arrival time it is very difficult to have subs fill those positions.
Working with the Office of Planning, Innovation and Accountability, it was determined that the fill rate across the division was 93 percent when the duration needed was seven hours or more. However, the fill rate dropped to 85 percent when the duration was less than seven hours. It can be concluded that most substitute teachers seem to prefer to work full day positions. If you need to be absent, please take these things into consideration. Let Mrs. Lewis or Mrs. Metzger know if you need any assistance. Thank you!
