Together we will create something beautiful!
May 6, 2022
Message from the Principal / Mensaje de la directora
The Parley's Park Press weekly newsletters are filled with classroom celebrations, updates, and reminders. Thank you for taking a few minutes each week to celebrate the wonderful things that happen at Parley's Park on a daily basis!
PPES parents, I kindly ask (if you have not already done so) to please complete the online returning student registration ASAP! This is the time of the year when we gather information to prepare for the 2022-23 school year. Please be on the lookout for registration email reminders from Jobana Gertz (jgertz@pcshools.us) and follow the steps and complete the registration. The number of students enrolled for the 2022-23 school year will impact how many staff members are hired.
I'm sending a heartfelt Happy Mother's Day to every PPES' mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister this weekend! May you never forget that, "To the world you are a mother, but to your family you are the world."
Sincerely,
Kim Howe, Principal
Parley's Park Elementary
Park City School District
Sinceramente,
Kim Howe, Directora

Running with Ed - FINAL DAY TO REGISTER / Corre con Ed - ´Ultimo día
Last Day to Register May 6, 2022 and Have it Count for PPES!
Running With Ed (RWE) is a Park City tradition. It is a celebratory relay race fundraiser for the Park City Education Foundation that raises money for Park City teachers, students, and schools. It’s been voted Park City’s Favorite Fundraiser and Sporting Event seven years in a row!
The 2022 Race will consist of 8 Legs and will once again start and finish at the Basin Recreation Field house. The 8 legs will take runners to six different PCCD schools, as well as up the famous Utah Olympic Park stairs. The 8 legs range in distance from 1.2 miles to 6.2 miles, making this a race for all ages and abilities to participate in; team members can run, walk, skip their way through Park City to finish with a rocking Finish Line celebration at the Field house.
Schools with the highest percentage of registrations win $5,000, $3,000, or $2,000, respectively, for their schools. Most recently, Parley's was in 3rd place in total registration. When you register, donate, and run, you help PARLEY'S win big money! Parley's will earn a Pajama Day schoolwide if we reach 300 registrants.
RWE 2022 will take place on May 21st 2022! Mark your calendars!

Our students will begin their End of the Year assessments this week and through the end of the school year.
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 begin their State Testing. All students in K-5 will be assessed in DIBELS (Reading), Acadience and iReady Math. As you prepare your child for these end of the year assessments, we would encourage you to have a conversation with them about how they feel going into the different tests. You can help them identify strategies that may help them, such as:
1. Take their time
2. Read the questions first before reading a passage so they know what to look for
3. Have a good breakfast before coming to school
4. Get plenty of rest
Be on the lookout for a communication from your child’s teacher with specific testing dates for their classroom!!

Please direct specific questions around online registration to Ms. Jossi Hurtado - jhurtado@pcschools.us.

First Grade Coding / Codificación en primer grado

Great Salt Lake Bird Festival's statewide student art contest /Concurso estatal de arte estudiantil del Great Salt Lake Bird Festival
It brings me much joy to announce PPES has not one, but TWO winners in the Great Salt Lake Bird Festival's statewide student art contest!!!
The FIRST PLACE winner is one of our second grade students here at PPES! Please join us in celebrating this student's artwork pictured above.
There is a special celebration next Friday at the Eccles Education Center in Farmington honoring the winners as the exhibit opens.
The students worked on submissions in early March as an enrichment activity. We stylized our flammulated owls, the 2022 festival bird, based on Charley Harper's style. Harper was an artist we covered earlier in the year as part of our September EVA curriculum.

Ice Arena Fun!
Kindness / Amabilidad
This wonderful first grade student went above and beyond to resolve a conflict with a group of first grade students at recess. A group of boys accused boys from a different grade level of calling them names when it turned out to be a different group of students who were actually doing the name calling. This student listened patiently to the boys’ accusations and then calmly said, “I know we didn’t do the name calling, but if you think we did, I apologize.” This student then stuck out his hand to shake hands with the boys and said, “don’t worry, we all make mistakes and we’ll take care of you.”
