Summer 2020 Learning Opportunities
Berrien Springs Virtual Academy
From the principal~
Before we know it, the school year will be concluded ~ and what a year it has been ~ one that will live on in our minds for the rest of our lives. We will all remember where we were when the world shut down. I want to express my deepest care and concern for each student in our program and let you know that we are here for you academically but also emotionally. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need help.
This brief newsletter contains procedural information for the end of the school year and contains a brief survey that we need from each student. The results will help us plan for Summer School and technology equipment return. We thank you in advance for your help.
Recommended Summer Learning for all
1. READ READ READ :) Summer is an amazing time for reading. A quick google search reveals wonderful recommendations for summer reading. Feel free to reach out to Mrs. Conway for her personal recommendations.
2. Solidify your math facts with xtramath.com. SIgn up is free and easy - no need to be connected to a school. Use this summer to get fast and accurate with your math facts! (Recommended for all students K-10th grade who need help in this area)
3. Get outside, exercise, connect with friends (if possible). We are all hungry for social interaction. Think of one or two friends that you would like to get to know a little better and reach out.
4. Play games and be creative. Research shows that children's brains develop through play. We recommend family board games.
Best Case Scenario #1
Your student finishes on time (June 9) and passes all courses!!! Great job!!! WOW, what an amazing feat that is and PHEW - I'm sure you are so glad to be done :) You will return your equipment on JUNE 10 or JUNE 11 between noon and 3 pm. You will bring in your device, case, charger, and mifi. We will mail home your report card and certificates the following week.
We will only allow two families in the building at a time and ask that you wear a mask when you are in the building.
Second Best Case Scenario #2
You can finish MOST of your classes but need an extension on a couple of classes. (This includes foreign languages!) Please prioritize your work and complete as many as you can by June 9, extend your learning to June 26 for the 1 or 2 that you need to finish. Congratulations to you for working so hard during this difficult time! You are also to be commended!
Your deadline, for your 1 or 2 courses is June 26, and you will return your technology on June 29th or 30th between noon and 3 pm. You will bring in your device, case, charger, and mifi. We will mail home your report card the following week.
We will only allow up to 2 families in the building at a time and ask that you wear a mask (to be updated as the governor releases new information).
Summer School Scenario (#3)
This student needs the entire summer to continue to work on their courses. Please note: Language Arts is not available in summer format). Even Foreign Languages are permitted over the summer! Our goal is that EVERY student have EVERY opportunity we can give to earn credits and advance to the next grade level. Your deadline is Friday August 14 and you will turn in your technology August 17th or 18th between noon and 3 pm. You will bring in your device, case, charger, and mifi. We will mail home your report card the following week.
Presently, we plan to only allow 2 families in the building at a time and ask that you wear masks. This is subject to change.
