March is Reading Month General Information
Silver Springs is excited to read for the gold during March is Reading Month! We've planned some fun activities for this month long celebration of reading!
- Our annual March Reading Challenge begins on Monday, March 2nd and ends on Tuesday, March 31st.
- WE ARE AIMING FOR 100% PARTICIPATION! We need to synergize in order to meet our school wide goal of 255,000 total minutes!
- The classroom in each grade level with the highest total minutes read at the end of the month will win a $20 gift certificate to purchase books for their classroom at the Spring Book Fair!!
- Each classroom will have weekly drawings for $5 coupons for the Spring Book Fair. To be eligible for the drawing, students must turn in their reading log for that week. *Each student can only win once during the month.
- All students who contribute towards our school wide reading goal will receive a coupon for a free pizza from Pizza Cutter! We are so thankful to Pizza Cutter for supporting March is Reading Month year after year!
Weekly Reading Logs
Students will complete and turn in weekly reading logs for the month of March. Weekly logs are due Tuesday mornings, with the exception of Week 1 logs. Since Tuesday, March 10th there is no school for students due to a teacher PD day, week 1 logs will be due Wednesday, March 11th. Your child will bring home a reading log in their Monday envelope on Monday, March 2nd. If you need another copy, please click on your child's grade level below to access and print the reading log.

1st Grade~ 15 minutes/day
2nd Grade~ 20 minutes/day
3rd Grade~ 20 minutes/day

March is Reading Month Calendar
Each Friday in March is a Celebrate Reading Day! The schedule for these special days is on the calendar. Please see the info below for more information about our Celebrate Reading Days.
Read with a Friend Day (March 6th)~ During a designated time during the day, students will be able to read with a friend within their classroom.
Switch-A-Room and Read Day (March 13th)~ Each lower el classroom will be partnered up with an upper el classroom. For reading time on this day, the students will switch rooms and read in the classroom that they are partnered up with.
Read Like an Athlete Day (March 20th)~ Dress up like an athlete today! (Students can wear their sports uniform/jersey. If they do not play a sport, they are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team gear.)
Read Olympic/Sports Books Day (March 27th)~ Students are encouraged to read books about the Olympics and/or sports today. Students are welcome to bring their favorite Olympic/Sports books from home to enjoy during reading time.
Book Exchange
Silver Springs will be hosting a book exchange the week of March 9th through 13th (no school on Tue. March 10th). All students who wish to participate may bring in gently used books that they have enjoyed, to exchange with other students. Monday through Friday during this week, students may drop off their books and take home up to two books each day. Tables will be set up in the lobby from 8:30-8:45am. What better way to stroke through the pages of a good book, than with a book from the exchange?
Milk and Cookies
All students are invited to hear a few of our Silver Springs staff read their favorite books and enjoy some Milk and Cookies on Wednesday, March 25th from 6:00-7:00pm. Please click the blue button below to access the Milk and Cookies Google Form to RSVP for this fun event!

Author Visit~ Supriya Kelkar
We are super excited to welcome this year's guest author for March is Reading Month! Supriya Kelkar will join us on Thursday, March 26th. Supriya is an award winning author of many books including The Many Colors of Harpreet Singh, Ahimsa, and American as Paneer Pie. Not only is Supriya an amazing author, but she is also a parent of one of our Silver Springs leaders! To learn more about Supriya, you can check out her website @ supriyakelkar.com
