Wasco Weekly
THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS ITS PACK
August 13, 2021
We are so proud of our students! This week was an incredible milestone, reuniting the Wasco school community under one roof from 8:00-3:00. It takes a lot of coordination to get families, staff, and students moving on the same schedule, and WE DID IT! Thank you to everyone reading, because it is not a goal that we can accomplish on our own. We need everyone working together. Our school theme this year is Adventure Awaits! We will be using this theme to inspire children to challenge themselves in new ways and stick to the journey with routine practice in order to realize growth. We are confident that by the end of the year we will have many inspiring stories from the students.
Families need to know that all students are able to participate in mask breaks and snacks during our school day. Snacks are provided, if weather permits, during the mask break outside. Students need to be seated 6 feet apart whenever masks are off and when they are eating. During our day, students have access to hand sanitizer and we practice regular hand washing. If you would like more specific information about the daily schedule, please contact your child’s teacher.
Kind regards,
Principal Brennan

Your Child's Daily Schedule-Specials
During their school day your child has two specials. During these specials, your child leaves their classroom and the homeroom teacher. The special teachers have their own environment and programming. Our specials are Physical Education, Music, Art, and Empower. All specials are 40 minutes per week.
Empower is our new special that K-5 students will experience twice a week. Each experience will focus on building the competencies through play, where students will work in partners, small groups and large groups. Teachers will explicitly focus on the SEL standards and competencies through real world, hands-on learning. Teachers and students will model and role play to solidify their understanding and ability to utilize the competencies such as problem solving, communication, teamwork and conflict resolution. The experiences will involve students using these skills to design, build, imagine, wonder, collaborate and connect. Student choice and reflection are highlighted in these experiences. The experiences are flexible, allowing the teacher to respond to the students needs and interests based on the individuals in their class. The experiences will look different based on the grade level and the interests of the students in a particular group. There are 8 modules in the program, but differ based on the grade level:
Make it to the End!--Chain Reactions and Crazy Contraptions
Get Out and Play! --Game Play and Design
Make it Move! --Coding and Robotics
Show it Off! --Drama, Video Production, and Media Tools
Light it Up! --Circuits and Electricity
Get on Board! --Skill Development Through Game Play
Build It! --Creative Construction
Make a Difference! --Problem-Based Learning to Help Your School or Community (or entrepreneur experience)
Additionally, we have a site for parents to learn more about the modules. It can be found here.

Curriculum Night
Curriculum Night will be delivered virtually. The date will be announced soon. Grade level teams will share a common video with their families outlining classroom expectations and providing information about grade-level curriculum and instruction. Your understanding of our learning targets is important to us. Curriculum Night provides you with the first understanding of this year’s expected growth for your child. There will be more information coming soon from your classroom teacher.

Arrival and Dismissal
You can use the map link above to identify your child’s entrance and exit door. Upon arrival, students should enter the building through their designated door, where they will be greeted by a staff member. At the end of the day, students exit through the same door and proceed to a designated area sorted by their transportation home. Our students who ride the bus line up with a peer and staff bus monitor. Students who are picked up by car stand on the front sidewalk and wait for their ride to arrive. This is the same pattern we used last year. We appreciate it when you extend cooperation and consideration for others in our school community. The kids learn from all of us and we are a team working together to help children build lifelong skills and positive community habits.
