East Middle School
Parent Newsletter: October 4th
A Note From the Principal
Dear East Middle School Students, Parents, and Guardians:
It's that time again! The weekly newsletter is here.
Our 7th and 8th grade band students performed on Monday, and they did a phenomenal job. Bravo, bravo, bravo! It's great to see the students in their different activities and passions.
We have been receiving some of the missing MAP reports and they should be coming home with your child. If you do not receive one in the next week, please let me know.
Reminders for This Week:
- Friday is an early release day for students at EMS. Students will be released at 11:50AM. Lunch WILL NOT be served. Bus service will be running as normal.
- Monday is NO SCHOOL for students. It is a professional development day for staff.
We are continuing to partner with Apple Bus on transportation issues. If you have an issue that you are concerned about, please contact either Stacy Johnson or myself.
Thanks for all the support you give the EMS community! Go, Huskies!
Sincerely,
Katie Campbell

Morning and Afternoon Procedures at EMS
We will begin to welcome students into the building starting at 7:10 AM.
- When 8th and 7th grade enter, they be ushered into the gym. 8th grade will sit on one side of the gym, and 7th grade will sit on the other. Teachers are in the gym to help supervise and dismiss students.
- When 6th grade students enter, Team 6A will be ushered to the auxiliary gym, while Team 6B will be ushered to the carpeted area in the pod. Students are supervised in their respective areas.
- Students who want breakfast will report to the cafeteria.
- There are teacher supervisors in the hallways to help direct traffic.
- If a student receives a pass from the teacher to visit in the morning, he/ she will be able to report directly to their teacher once entering the building.
- Students also have access to the library both before and after school.
Our first bell rings at 7:25, and students are in a staggered dismissal to ensure that hallways are relatively clear. This will give students 10 minutes of time to get to their lockers, unpack, use the restroom and then report to their first hour by 7:35AM.
Our EMS students have done an excellent job over the last two weeks! Keep up the great work!
After-School Events Attendance
Students are expected to remain in the stands during the games unless utilizing restroom or concessions. Middle school students will have a designated section in the south end zone on the field and will have access to the nearby visitor concessions and restrooms.

PAWS Tutoring Program is BACCKKKK!!!
Some Guidance For Students Who Participate in PAWS:
1. Most likely, teachers will initiate the PAWS support for students.
2. Students will be able to practice their academics with support, but this isn't a time for one-on-one tutoring.
3. If your student is a car-rider, he/ she will need to be picked up by 4:40PM.
4. We encourage parents to collaborate with teachers on the purpose of the time, while the goal is to complete work with guidance, it is not a guarantee that students finish between 3:00-4:30PM.
There will be late bus service for students who stay after school. A teacher will be on-hand for extra academic support.

Strategic Planning Forum set for Oct. 26
On Sept. 19, the Strategic Planning Committee continued to review school district data and began to plan for ways to gather community feedback. This was the second meeting for the committee, which has been formed to help determine "What's next for Ray-Pec?"
Laura Howard and Patty Gentrup from the University of Kansas Public Management Center guided the group in discussion about the public engagement portions of the process. The committee is developing a draft list of focus areas and strategies for the public to consider. Community members may suggest other ideas during the feedback process.
Mark your calendars for an October 26 public forum to learn more. The committee plans to share information about the planning process and initial ideas for focus areas and strategies. The forum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Ray-Pec High School. In addition to the forum, the committee also plans to use surveys to gather community feedback.
