Mr. Piasecki and Mrs. Allen
Dr. Bertrando's e-mail:
We will ask all 3rd through 12th grade students to participate in the YouthTruth Student Survey, which will be administered between March 18th and March 29th. Selected by a committee of K-12 teachers, administrators and counselors, the Youth Truth survey is a nationally recognized instrument and is used in hundreds of schools and districts across the country. The survey will anonymously ask students questions related to engagement, academic rigor, relationships, instructional methods, culture, school safety, student motivation, and grit. Students will take the survey online.
A school climate survey meets many needs in Garnet Valley. As part of the safe schools mandates and recommendations of Act 44, school climate surveys and the action planning that occurs after analyzing the data is a major factor in ensuring school safety. Additionally, our Global Citizenship committee will utilize the information to assist in systematically embedding character education, social and emotional wellness, community service, and cultural awareness and appreciation into our curricula and daily interactions with students and each other.
Your building principals will provide more detailed information in the next few days and weeks as well as send communications to your students and their families. Contained in the principals' communications will be a link that will provide parents with the opportunity to preview the survey, and if they feel it necessary, opt their children out.
I greatly appreciate your support and cooperation with the survey. Our goal is to have at the very minimum 75% of our students participate. For those of you who wish to learn more about Youth Truth, please visit their website at http://youthtruthsurvey.org, or speak to your building principal.
