Player News!

Hello Families,

February is here and soon Spring will be in the air....but not this week! We are expecting some heavy snow this week and depending on the timing of it, we may have to cancel school. If that should happen, you can log on to your child's Google Classroom to get activities for the day. If you do not have a device at home to use, such as a laptop, a desktop, or even a tablet or Ipad, you can ask to borrow a Chromebook from us. Please call the office if you want to borrow one in case of this school closing. You would have to pick it up from our office. We are not sending them home with the children. Please know you do not have to, but in case this is something you want so your child can still participate for the day, it is available on a first come basis. We do have a limited number of Chromebooks for loaning.

Please read through the entire newsletter to learn about other news for Player School!

Big picture

Getting to Know You

If your child has recently enrolled in Player School or if you haven't already done so, please take a moment to fill out the form below to provide us with a little more information about your child. It will also ask about other adults who are allowed to pick up your child. We will not dismiss your child to anyone who you have not indicated as an alternative pick up person besides a parent. You will also have an opportunity to submit any questions you might need to know prior to our orientation days.

Note: If you already filled this out from the previous time I sent it out or from our website, you will not need to do it again.

New Secretary & New Nurse

I have some Bad News and Good News to share with all of you. Sadly, Ms. Agnes, our secretary, had to resign and is leaving us. Also sadly, Ms. Teena, our nurse, had to resign as well. Both of them are moving on to other opportunities and we will miss them both very much!

The good news is that we have already found a replacement for Ms. Agnes. Her name is Ms. Kristy Walls. Below is a link for you to click on to get to know some of her favorites. You can email her at kwalls@isd109.org. Please feel free to send her a Welcome email. I am sure she will appreciate that.

I have also found a new nurse to replace Ms. Teena. Her name is Ms. Monika Dziadkowiec and she will begin with us sometime next week. She is a Registered Nurse (RN), just as Ms. Teena was. Monika recently worked in a pediatrician's office so she is very familiar with working with young children. Once Monika starts, her email will be mdziadkowiec@isd109.org. I am sure she will also appreciate a Welcome email.

We are very lucky to have found both of these ladies in the middle of a school year. I hope you all will join me in helping them feel welcomed.

New Coats and Shoes

We received a handful of new jackets and new shoes as a donation to Player School. Sizes for the jackets range from size 6-10. Sizes for shoes range from size 9- size 2. If you have children who are in need of a jacket or new pair of shoes within the sizes given, please contact Sue Penway at spenway@isd109.org or 708-430-8191 to arrange a time for pick up. We are happy to help our Player families in need in any way we can.

Upcoming Parenting Events

Book Club

A flyer was sent home last week to invite you to attend a Parent Book Club. This will be an evening event where a group meets once a week for 5 consecutive weeks as they explore a topic of child development. Please click on this link or below to view the flyer with more details.

Please call or email Sue Penway at spenway@isd109.org.

Parent Corner

Today's message in the parenting corner is to let you know about the importance of building physical endurance and fitness in our young children. Not only do we want to avoid childhood obesity, but we also want our young children to develop good, healthy habits early so they can carry them through adulthood. This month, at Player School, teachers will introduce health and fitness. In our gym, we have created the Player Health and Fitness Center. Our students will be able to try out a child-sized treadmill, a rowing machine, a stationary bike, an elliptical, and more. See some of the pictures taken below from yesterday.

If any of you have parenting concerns, issues with your child, or questions on how to handle situations at home, please reach out to us. We can arrange for you to meet with our team who can support you with suggestions and ideas. Please email our Parent Coordinator, Sue Penway at spenway@isd109.org.

State of Illinois requests Survey

If you have a few moments, please click on the link below to access a Parent Survey. In order for our results to calculate and be counted, we need at least 20% of our parents to respond. We are currently at 11%. Thank you to all who filled out the survey when it was sent out last month. If you want more information about why we need this information, please see the letter attached to this link.

Help Wanted

School District 109 is still looking to hire paraprofessionals and substitutes. If you have at least 60 hours of college credit, you can apply for a paraprofessional license. If you have a bachelor's degree, you can apply for a teacher substitute license. If you are interested in hearing more about either of these positions, feel free to reach out to me. I can guide you to how to obtain a license or answer any of your questions.
