Request from Mrs. Neugent (Music Teacher)
Parents -- For the 5th grade Salute to Veterans program on November 10th and 11th, we are looking to borrow any military clothing that might fit (or be a little bit big on) a child. If you have anything like that and are willing to let our 5th grade music classes borrow it, please drop it off in the office for Mrs. Neugent. Be sure and put your name on it so that it can be safely returned to you after our performances.
Volunteering at CES
In order to volunteer in GCISD a volunteer must:
1. Read the Volunteer Handbook, watch the appropriate video included in the handbook and electronically sign the volunteer verification form.
2. Complete the volunteer background check. A link is included in the handbook.
Here is the link to get to the Volunteer Handbook:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lEEkd9c-nDWp3_lioPMCw9bNxFrq-NXIxQ9jssTmY6Q/edit?usp=sharing
At CES, we ask that you do not bring younger siblings into the school when volunteering.
Junior Achievement
Junior Achievement is coming to CES in October and November!
What is JA?
Junior Achievement is a volunteer-delivered program for students. It fosters work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills, and uses experiential learning to inspire students to dream big and reach their potential. Junior Achievement provides all the materials needed for the sessions as well as training for the volunteers in order to prepare everyone for a fun and exciting learning experience.
Junior Achievement will look a little different this fall than it has in the past. This year Kindergarten - 3rd grades will have 1 lesson each week instead of all 5 lessons in one day. 4th and 5th grades will have JA in a Day and complete all 5 lessons in one day.
Junior Achievement Schedule
Kinder - October 21st, 28th, and November 4th (1:15 - 2:00)
1st Grade - October 28th and November 4th and 18th (9:45 - 10:45)
2nd Grade - October 21st, 28th, and November 4th and 11th (8:15 - 9:15)
3rd Grade - October 18th, 25th, and November 1st and 8th (1:45 -2:45)
4th Grade - JA in a Day on November 17th
5th Grade - JA in a Day on November 16th
If you are interested in volunteering to present JA lessons to your child’s class, please contact your child’s teacher. Training information for volunteers is below:
4th and 5th grade Volunteers - Monday, November 7th @ 8:00 AM in the Science Lab
Training for K-3 was held on September 26th. If you missed the training, please contact cindy.pearson@gcisd.net to receive training information and paperwork as soon as possible.
We hope you decide to be a part of our Junior Achievement program!
Screening Information from the School Nurse
CES will be doing a campus-wide screening "blitz" this year. We will be holding our "blitz" on October 25, 2016. On this day, PK, KG, 1st, 3rd, and 5th will have vision, hearing, and AN screenings completed. We ask that you help remind your student to have any necessary corrective lenses (contacts/glasses) that he/she may require in order to have the most accurate screening possible. Attendance is also very important on this day. Please do your best to have your student on time and present at school unless ill or injured. The more students we are able to complete screenings for during our scheduled time, the less time students are taken out of class for make-up screenings.
Screenings for our younger grades, PK and KG, will be completed with a photo-spot screener, an electronic screening device. Any referrals the machine detects will be sent home to the parent. Older grades will have a re-screen within 2 weeks if they fail an initial screening and referrals will be sent home to notify parents accordingly.
Questions? Contact Natalie Rudolph at natalie.rudolph@gcisd.net or 817-305-4940.
School Health Matters from Nurse Rudolph
Parents,
I would like to remind you of a couple of school health matters:
Medications: students are not permitted to carry medications, prescription or over-the-counter, to school without a medication permission form. Any medications must be turned into the nurse's clinic and administered by the nurse. Medications must also be FDA approved in order to be administered at school by the school nurse. For more information about medication administration at school, including medication permit forms, please visit my website.
Immunizations: please remember that as the school nurse I do my best to notify parents as early as possible of any needed updates to your student's immunizations; however, ultimately it is the parent's responsibility. Please check to see when your student's next immunization, vaccine, or waiver is due.
Lice: lice is not considered to be "contagious" or a health concern for students in school, but rather a nuisance. Students who are sent to my clinic with signs/symptoms of lice are checked with as much discretion as possible. Much like immunizations however, please be diligent in checking your student. Signs to check: witnessing frequent scratching at the scalp, complaining of an itchy head, unexplained scratches, sores, or scabs at the nape of the neck, or if there has been a known exposure to your student. Lice and nits vary in color and size and optimal lighting is best when trying to detect them. If you have questions whether or not your student has lice, you may bring your student to the nurse for evaluation.
Class food items: we encourage you to bring non-food items for birthdays and upcoming class parties as food items pose a risk for other student's safety. However, if you choose to bring food items, they MUST be store bought, individually wrapped with labels on each individual item. Home packed or prepared items will not be distributed in the class.
Child illness: Please report to the nurse or office if your student has had any combination of fever and cough, headache, sore throat, or congestion as we will begin following flu trends for the remainder of the year. Your help in this is greatly appreciated!

Huge shoutout to ALL the classes and parents that donated to our 2016 Fall Festival Silent Auction. Unfortunately, we can only have one class winner (most donations) and that goes to Mrs. Maddox's class. We can't thank ALL of you enough. Your support means SO much to us!
Thanks,
