Arroyo Seco Jr. High School -- August 23, 2019
Principal's Message
Hello Seco Families,
Thank you for your patience as everyone adjusts to the new school year and the drop off and pick up routines. If you missed it last week, please see the information below to help make this process go smoothly.
As you have noticed, roadwork is occurring on some of our surrounding streets. The work should not be occurring during drop off and pick up times and it is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month.
If your child rides a bike, scooter, or skateboard to school, please help ensure they are wearing a helmet, in accordance with California law, and that they lock up their items in our bike rack area.
This coming Monday, we will conduct a Lockdown Drill in students' classrooms; teachers will briefly discuss possible scenarios and responses with their students.
We look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming Counselor presentations (August 27 for incoming 7th grade parents and August 28 for 8th graders and their parents).
Labor Day is on September 2, and there will be no school that day. September 5 is a minimum day (dismissal at 11:35 am) with Back to School Night that evening.
One of our recent challenges is the prevalence of vaping among teenagers. Compounding this problem is the fact that vaping devices are increasingly available and easy to conceal. The City is hosting a presentation for teens and parents entitled "Truth about Vaping" on September 11 -- please see flyer below for more information.
Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

Student Pick Up and Drop Off
Thank you for your patience with picking up and dropping off your students. The first days of school are always challenging as families establish routines and procedures. Here are some reminders and recommendations.
You may want to drop your students off by 7:15 to avoid traffic and to ensure they are here on campus by the 7:45 am start time. Campus supervisors are on campus by 7 am. The first class on Late Start Wednesdays begins at 8:55.
Student dismissal is at 2:10: If you arrive at 2:20 to pick up your student, the buses should be gone and much of the traffic will have dissipated. Campus Supervisors are here to help ensure your students’ safety. Please note that campus supervisors leave at 3 pm – your child should be picked up no later than this time.
We encourage you to utilize our city buses dedicated to Arroyo Seco students. The buses leave a few minutes after dismissal – for complete schedules, please view the City Transit website: http://santaclaritatransit.com/files/2019/08/Arroyo-Seco-2019-2020-WEB.pdf
Please note the change in the traffic light system at the corner of Seco Canyon and Decoro. Pedestrians are now able to cross in both directions at the same time during peak drop off and pick up times. No right turns on red are allowed at these times.
There is no stopping on Decoro to drop off students; this is a safety hazard. Thank you for doing your part to follow all traffic regulations and to encourage your children to follow all safety rules when coming to or leaving campus, including staying on the sidewalks and in the crosswalks.
