Children And Trauma Childhood traumas range widely in their severity and impact. A car accident, an earthquake or flood, being attacked by a dog, undergoing a frightening medical treatment are all are distinctly different events yet all provoke common symptoms of psychological trauma. | Working With WorryWorking with Worry is designed to give parents practical tools they can use to support their children as they try to manage their anxiety in today's increasingly stressful world. It is a hands-on workbook that you can turn to for easy-to-understand information, recommendations, and support. | Helping Your Anxious Child Most children are afraid of the dark. Some fear monsters under the bed. But at least ten percent of children have excessive fears and worries or phobias, separation anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive disorder that can hold them back and keep them from fully enjoying childhood. This book offers practical, scientifically proven tools that can help. |

FREE Back to School Supply Event – July 30, 2022
TORRINGTON, CT May 27, 2022 The Torrington Police Activities League (PAL) in partnership with area organizations will be holding the 15th annual Northwest Connecticut Free Back to School Supply Event on Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. (rain or shine) at Franklin Plaza on Franklin Street, Torrington.
This event allows for over 400 area families to receive school supplies to prepare for school. Back to School supply shopping costs the average American family over $683 per child between school clothes and supplies, according to American Express. “This is simply a cost that most families with multiple children cannot bear” says Donna Labbe, Torrington Public Schools Event Coordinator.
Executive Director Chris Smedick notes, “All of the agencies on our council have been working hard to see this program help so many low-income, hard working families in our area. Members of our council like Baroco and Community Systems, Inc. have even held fundraisers to donate all of the school supplies. But we are coming down to the wire and it’s critical that as a community, we come together to help too—donations of backpacks, school supplies and volunteers to help the day of the event are still needed.” Says Smedick, “The more we can do now, together, the more we can ensure a great year for all children. Any support is greatly appreciated.”
A stuff a bus for donated school supplies is scheduled for June 11 at Wal Mart from 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Monetary donations be made out to the Torrington Police Athletic League (please note Back to School Event on check) and can be sent to the address below:
