Second Grade News
Week of January 13th-17th
What We Learned This Week:
This week we enjoyed reading: Pearl and Wagner, a story all about friendship and working together. The Genre of this week's story was Fantasy. We did a buddy reading with this story, and with their buddy they asked/answered each other questions to check for comprehension. This is a crowd favorite activity in our class :)
Writing: Our Opinion writing for this week was based on the book: Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late By: Mo Willems. The kids wrote their opinions on why they think the Pigeon needs to go sleep. They came up with some great ideas, and did their own pigeon directed drawing.
Language: we continued to work with verbs; past, present and future tense.
SEL (Social and Emotional Learning): Our SEL focus for the week is: Empathy. We discussed identifying our own and other's feelings, respecting other's feelings and how how to show compassion towards others.

This week during Social Studies, we also discussed Martin Luther King Jr. Together we read a book about MLK Jr., and wrote important facts and details from the book. The children were inspired by his "I Have a Dream" speech, and we decided to do a short writing piece stating what our dreams are.
