Teen Read Week at Monomoy
Teen Read Week™ is a national adolescent literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). It began in 1998 and is held annually in October the same week as Columbus Day. Its purpose is to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users.
As part of our celebration at Monomoy, our public librarians will be outside of our library every day during Jawsome next week. They will be doing CLAMS card sign up and replacement for students. They will also be forgiving fines!
Teen Read Week is the perfect time to try out OverDrive. We now have access to thousands of eBooks and audiobooks at multiple reading and interest levels. Access is very simple: Students should visit this link Commonwealth eBook Collection, then select Monomoy Regional High School, and then click on the link on the following page that says " Monomoy Regional High School users, please click here to sign into this system."
MRHS students should check out YALSA’s Teens’ Top Ten page to see this year’s 25 candidates and vote for their top three choices. Teens' Top Ten is a "teen choice" list, where teens nominate and choose their favorite books of the previous year. Many of this year’s choices are available in our library. Voting is open until the end of Teen Read Week.

Generous Donations to MRHS Students from Masonic Angel Fund
The generosity of the Masonic Angel Fund is unmatched. They've donated school supplies (paper, pens, notebooks, binders), groceries and now BRAND NEW backpacks for students who are in need. The students from our Monomoy Interact Club have offered to help prepare the bags of groceries so students can easily take them home. The Monomoy family is so grateful for their help.

Sage Barnes was selected by the Philanthropy Partners of the Cape and Islands (PPCI) to receive the 2018 Distinguished Service to Philanthropy Award as the Outstanding Youth/Youth Organization. Each year, through a public nomination process, PPCI chooses a young person who has demonstrated outstanding philanthropic commitment through fundraising efforts and or coordinating community involvement to benefit Cape Cod and the Islands.
Sage was nominated by the Cape Cod Theatre Company of Harwich for her volunteer work with the theatre. Her work for multiple other organizations, including raising over $37,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Association, was another factor in her selection for this award. Going to school is all she longing for. And the ambitious boss of the workshop Kun, who works so hard for trying to give his family a better life. Through the story of these two families, the film explores how these wastes recycled by the bare hands of families, and discovers their dilemma and choices of suffering irreversible damages on life just to make a living. Athletics Weekly Summary
October 1st-October 5th
Written by: Caroline Howard
Duuunnn dunn. Duuunnnn Duunn. Dun dun dun dun dun dun. Pow! That’s right Sharks, I’m back in the office! Get ready for a week full of news on your very own Sharks!
During the very rainy Friday, Monomoy Football played Avon Holbrook. As we all know, Sharks do best in water. That’s right, the Sharks swam into victory 50-12! Nice win boys!
Over the weekend, Field Hockey went up to Peabody to face off against Bishop Fenwick. The girls tried their hardest, but on that sunny Saturday the Crusaders took the win, 2-1. A beautiful goal scored by Caroline DiGiovanni! Nice effort girls!
As Monday rolled around, both Boys and Girls Soccer played SJP. Boys home and Girls away. The Boys tied against SJP goose egg- to- goose egg. Both teams fought hard, but hey, a tie is better than a loss. The Girls also finished with a tie. However Kate Gabri made sure the Sharks got on the board, scoring both goals! Final score 2-2. Way to go girls! As for Field Hockey, the Sharks faced off against the Sturgis East Storm. Even on a rocky field, the Sharks came out with a win. The final score ringing 8-0! Goals scored by both of the Howard sisters, Aoife Daly, Amy Hinesley, Caroline DiGiovanni, and Jessie Currie. Looks like the Sharks put out that Storm!
On Tuesday, Girls Soccer had a close game against the Nantucket Whalers. The Sharks gave the Whalers their all, but the Whalers put one on the board. The Sharks fought hard until the end! Final score 1-0. Nice effort ladies! Boys Golf also played on Tuesday against the Nantucket Whalers. A beautiful day over at the Nantucket Golf Club, but a tough match for the Sharks. The final score was Monomoy 66, Nantucket 99. Big Shark shoutouts to freshman Jason Metters and sophomore Matt Smeltzer! Way to go guys!
As for Wednesday, Boys Soccer took a ferry ride over to Nantucket. Unfortunately, the Whalers kicked it into high gear and won, 6-0. Our Sharks however, played hard the whole 80 minutes! Great effort guys! Boys Golf played their second match in a row for the week against SJP. This was in fact the last match for senior captains Jason Masiello and Ian Johnson over at Eastward Ho!. The beautiful beast that is the course brought around a hard match for the Sharks. The overall score being Monomoy 64, SJP 91. Great team effort guys!
As far as Thursday goes, Boys Golf plays away at Rising Tide. Good luck!
I will be back with scores from our Thursday and Fridays games next week. That is all for now, but as always Go Sharks!
