From the Principal's Desk

I’m writing to share that our new reading specialist, Ms. Jessy Durizch, started with us last week and began pulling students this week. Ms. Durizch moved to North Carolina from Upstate NY 17 years ago, beginning her teaching adventure. She spent many years in the elementary classroom, taught special education, and now focuses on Reading Intervention. She has a passion and love for teaching reading and wants to share it with her students. In her free time, Jessy enjoys traveling, hiking, and is an avid beach goer, along with spending time with her friends and family. She is very excited to be part of the Chatham Grove Elementary Community. More to come, but we wanted to be sure you all were aware that she has begun serving our kids.

Next Week Reminder

School is out next Wednesday through Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Boosterthon Update

Big picture
A HUGE Gator thank you to our CGE community for helping us surpass our Boosterthon goals! We sprinted by our original program goal of $15,000 and left our stretch goal of $20,000 in the dust. While the final tally won’t be officially recorded for another day or so, we are thrilled to report that this year’s event has already raised $27,000+ for our students!!! These funds will be used to purchase an assortment of PE and recess equipment for our school (stay tuned for details). We are amazed and humbled by your generosity – THANK YOU!

DeWitt Driscol will be running the sessions.

A four-time letterman at Penn State, Driscoll was a three-time Big Ten place winner and NCAA qualifier for the Nittany Lions. Driscoll finished his career ranked ninth all-time on the Penn State career falls list, and led the team in falls as a senior. 2001 PIAA State Champion at 135 pounds. He went 140-20 with 97 pins, and capped his high school career by earning Outstanding Wrestler honors at the prestigious Dapper Dan Classic. Driscoll later served as head coach of local NC High School Carrboro High and helped out with local wrestling club Cardiac Kids. Prior to this Driscoll served as an assistant coach at UNC and Club Coach at NC State University.

Chatham County Covid Testing

CCS is offering free, weekly COVID-19 testing for students who have parental permission to participate. Families have to opt in to be part of this program. The testing will take place at your child’s school. We will begin the testing Oct. 25 for our elementary students, Nov. 1 for grades sixth through eighth and Nov. 8 for our high school students.

Please visit our website,, and click on the Coronavirus Info button at the top of the homepage for more details about this grant-funded program and to enroll your child up.

CCS is committed to protecting the health and safety of our staff and students. The testing program is one more strategy we can use to reduce the spread of the virus, prevent outbreaks and protect all members of our CCS family. Our goal is to keep our students in school, maintain athletics and continue school activities. This is an important tool in furthering our progress in doing so.
