The Night Patrol

"Investigate the enemy frontline"

Leave the trenches, wait for the German patrol, kill them, investigate the enemy frontline, capture enemy for interrogation, steal documents from the enemy, search for survivors and return to the trenches.

A group of about 30 men were sent to no man's land as Patrollers twice a week. Many of these men knew this mission was almost suicidal and many wrote letter to their loved ones.

The patrollers were armed with knives and riffles to be able to kill the enemy or capture them.

There was a huge chance to get captured or killed while the mission and once you get spotted crossing the No Man's land there was barely any chances to make it back.

Many soldiers considered returning to their trenches the most difficult bit of the patrol as the nervous allied soldiers fired at them.
