Message from Mrs. Gray
Dear Salem Woods Families,
Happy Earth Day, Friday, April 22nd, Salem Woods Families!
Did you know that over 30% of the garbage we create in Snohomish County could have been recycled?
Reduce
Where you can, and when safe, walk more instead of using the car. This reduces the gas your parents will use!
Switch off electrical items, such as your lights, television and games console, when you are not using them – this will reduce the amount of energy you use!
Turn off the tap water when brushing your teeth – you’ll reduce the amount of clean water being wasted!
Reuse
When you are heading out to the store, always take your own bags. That way, you won’t use plastic bags from the store.
When something is broken, see if you can mend it or fix it instead of throwing it away!
And if it can’t be mended or fixed, see if you can find a new use for it!
Give unwanted items to charity!
And reuse scrap paper – remember you can always use both sides of a sheet of paper to draw on!
Recycle
By recycling, we are using materials from things you don’t need any more to make new products.
Instead of throwing away your food, you can turn it into really useful compost!
Always see if you can buy things made from recycled materials
Sort all your trash so that the glass, tin cans, plastic and paper can be recycled
Think about what other things can be recycled at your local recycling center, like batteries and ink cartridges
Use kitchen waste as compost in the garden.
Next week, on Wednesday, April 27th, we honor our awesome secretaries, Karen Ligman and Tasha Christensen, during Administrative Professionals Appreciation Week. These two wonderful ladies come to school with patience and a friendly smile every day to help our students, families, and staff have a great day. Many of you have complimented our office staff for their excellent customer service and welcoming, personal approach. They even help support us at recess and lunchtime when we need an extra hand. They are always up to do anything needed to be helpful! We are so grateful and lucky that Mrs. Ligman and Mrs. Christensen are here as part of our school family. If students would like to share a drawing, card, or letter with them, please bring it by the office next week. They would love to hear from our students!

Please welcome our new Attendance Intervention Specialist at MSD - Junelle Lewis
Hello MSD families!! My name is Junelle Lewis and I am the new Attendance Intervention Specialist for the district.
My position has the privilege of serving students at all levels, elementary, middle and high school. As the AIS, my primary role is to focus on engaging youth and families in order to discover root causes of truant behavior. My goal is to work collaboratively with students and families to develop internal motivation to graduate from school in partnership with the community and juvenile courts.
Attendance MATTERS and can easily be referred to as the foundation of student success. Building a habit of good attendance early is very important and can carry on through college and careers. It is my goal to see every student succeed, no matter what barriers we may face. Partnering with families serves as a major benefit for student success and also contributes to them having a positive, engaging educational experience.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I am here to support you.
All the best,
Junelle Lewis
