Silver Creek Weekly Newsletter
June 6- June 10
Dear Silver Creek Families
We are quickly approaching the end of the school year. With only two weeks left of school, we encourage all students to continue to do their best and take advantage of the Husky Connect time to finish out the school year strong. We are always here to support our students' efforts.
We are looking forward to celebrating our 8th grade students this week, Friday, June 10 for their 8th grade promotion. Way to go 8th graders! We are very proud of you.
Next week will be the last week of the SCMS Newsletter to families. We will resume back at the start of the new school year on August 29, 2022.
Please read the most recent community message from MCPS. As always, please use this reporting FORM, if your child does test positive for COVID-19. You may review Silver Creek Middle School's reported COVID-19 cases here. You may read the most recent COVID update to SCMS families HERE.
The sections marked with an * have been updated with new information OR is a new section in the newsletter. Please make sure to review. As always, thank you for your continued partnership. Let's make it a great week Huskies!
Bell Schedule for this Week
As a reminder, Husky connect time on Mondays and Tuesdays will provide an opportunity for students to work on assignments; students will have an additional day of the week (Wednesday- Friday) for a study hall period during their Husky Connect Homeroom. This is an opportunity for students to work on any assignments and/or work with their assigned homeroom teacher for any support. Students will still have outside time one of the days ( Wednesday-Friday) and will participate in either an MYP lesson or No Place for Hate lesson the other day.

You may read more about the Six Flag trip Here.
Please find the 8th Grade Parent Letter & FAQ. We look forward to celebrating our 8th grade students in a very special way this school year!
*8th Grade Promotion Tickets Distribution Update
We are excited to celebrate and promote all of our 8th grade students during this special ceremony. Space is limited; therefore each student received two (2) promotion tickets for their family. This also includes siblings (ex: one family with two children in 8th grade will get a total of 4 tickets.). If you were not able to retrieve your tickets, you may come to the main office to retrieve your promotion tickets this week on Monday, 6/6 through Wednesday, 6/8 between 7:30 AM-5PM.
We had a great number of requests for additional tickets. We have selected families who have requested additional tickets using a lottery system. These families have been notified and information regarding additional tickets has been sent. Families who have been selected for additional tickets, can pick up their tickets in the main office between the hours of 8AM-5PM on Monday, June 6.
*Chromebook Obligations
All 8th grade students and any student who will not return to MCPS next school year will need to return their chromebooks. All returning 6th and 7th grade students will keep their chromebooks for next school year.
We will COLLECT all 8th grade chromebooks on Monday, June 13, 2022 during homeroom. The 8th graders will need to bring their chromebook, charger, and case to school on this day. Please help to ensure that your child attends school on this day and brings their chromebook and charger. Rising 9th grade students will be issued a new chromebook when they begin high school.
Teachers will inventory all chromebooks during homeroom on Monday, June 13 to determine any damage. More information will be forthcoming regarding chromebooks that are lost or damaged for all students.

Students Arriving Late to School
Cell Phone Use
The use of cell phones in the school has become a large distraction for our students. We will continue to reinforce our cell phone expectations that it must be out of sight during instructional time. Aligned with MCPS regulations, all personal mobile devices must be turned off and away at the start of school. Students may use their cell phones before school, at lunch, and after school ONLY. They should not have their cell phones out during transition times.
The absence of mobile devices will allow teachers to continue to create a conducive learning environment with fewer distractions for our students as well as lessen behavioral infractions related to cell phone use during hallway transitions and other learning spaces. If students are not able to follow the cell phone policy, consequences will be given based on the Student Code of Conduct.
