What is a cell

Commonly refereed to as the basic building blocks of life cells are microscopic and is in every living thing. There are two types of cells found on living organisms which are plant cells and animal cells.

Plant organelles

A cell organelle is like a human organ which allows cells carry out their functions.

Plant cells are squared or in some type of box shape.

Plant cell organelle include:

  • Cell wall which supports and protects the cell
  • Cell membrane controls what comes in and out of a cell
  • The nucleus controls the cell activity
  • Cytoplasm protects cell organelles
  • Endoplasmic reticulum (E.R) carry materials through the cell
  • Ribosomes produce proteins
  • Mitochondria brokers down sugar molecules into energy
  • Vacuole one large sac to store food, water, waste, and other materials
  • Lysosome uses chemicals to break down food and worn out cell parts
  • Chloroplasts capture energy from sunlight and uses it to produce food for plant cells

Animal organelles

Animal cells are usually always in a circular shape.

Animal cell organelle include:

  • Cell membrane controls what comes in and out of the cell
  • Mitochondria produces the energy a cell needs to carry out its functions
  • Lysosome uses chemicals to break down food and worn out cell parts
  • Vacuoles (multiple) store food, water, wastes, and other materials
  • The nucleus controls the cell
  • Ribosomes use acids to create proteins
  • Endoplasmic reticulum (E.R) are passages to carry materials through the cell
  • Cytoplasm protects cell organelle
  • Golgi complex transports materials to different locations inside and outside of the cell
