Notes from Dr. Irvin
Your WGHS Weekly eNews for February 9

Hello WGHS Families,
We are so grateful for our Parents' Club initiative to "Show the Love" fundraiser. I am sharing a few photos of the heart messages--our staff love to see them. We have teaching candidates that have taught mini-lessons in classes who noted our students' kindness and generosity. While the larger setting presents many challenges, our community's support has been a salve to our staff.
I encourage you to share your positive observations and comments formally in our Parents' Club fundraiser or less formally as you find most accessible. We are very grateful for all the support.
Best,
Matt Irvin
Show the Love is Here!
Do you know the three main missions of the WGHS Parents' Club?
1) Provide enrichment grants to WGHS teachers and staff!
2) Award scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to 15 graduating seniors!
3) To provide a safe and fun Senior party commemorating the end of their high school journey!
These three missions require $45,000 a year to support. In addition to these mission based programs, the Parents' Club also supports beautification of school grounds, numerous hospitality events throughout the year to WGHS teachers and staff, Chilifest and more!
Show the Love is a virtual fundraising drive to raise money for our school!
All this is not possible without the support of our WGHS community. If a donation of just $10 were made for each student at the school, we will make our 2023 Show the Love goal!
Together, we can help continue a tradition of excellence.

DECA District Competition Results
Congratulations to our DECA students for their great performance at the DECA District competition this week! Sixteen students are eligible to attend the DECA State competition.
Webster Winter Reads Challenge
We had 18 students participate in the Webster Winter Reads Challenge. Students were challenged to check out and read two library books in the months of December and January. Freshman Lilly Hodel was the lucky winner of the grand prize drawing for a $20 certificate to the School Spirit Store.
In honor of National Black History Month, the Webster Groves High School Library and Art department challenged students to identify the iconic historical figures in the student-created mural hanging in the library. This mural painted by William Curtis and Eric Crenshaw is an artistic statement conceived and developed by the Students for Black Awareness and Action during the 1970-1971 school year.
THRIVE Featured on Fox 2 and Neighbors of Webster Groves
WG Thrive, a WGHS program that offers a unique, hands-on, experiential learning adventure by way of a business incubator facility, where students can develop critical business skills and confidence though educators and local entrepreneurs who serve as advisers, enabling the students to learn by doing, has been featured on Fox 2 News as well as in Neighbors of Webster Groves. Our student businesses are "thriving," and we love to see their talents highlighted!
