Gregory Gardens Weekly Bulletin

2019

Greetings from Administration

Hello Gregory Gardens,

It is our pleasure to be serving as your interim principals while Mrs. Kolano is on medical leave. We have truly enjoyed our time getting to know students, parents and staff. We have been spending our days getting into classrooms, visiting with students in the cafeteria and learning the ins and outs of recess at Gregory Gardens. Our campus is full of wonderful students eager to learn!

A little bit about your interim administrators....

Prior to being the Vice Principal at Rio Vista and Shore Acres Elementary, Katie Koontz taught for 12 years in MDUSD. She grew up in Concord and attended St. Mary's College where she received her Bachelors of Arts Degree as well as her Masters in Teaching. She continues to be an avid Gaels Basketball fan...swing by for a chat!

Nadia Visaya has been a Program Specialist for the Special Education Department in MDUSD for the last 4 years. She services sites K-12 and is proud to be serving the Gregory Gardens Community.

We look forward to getting to know each of you while we are at Gregory Gardens. Please say hello!

Gregory Gardens Elementary

In the past few weeks Administration has been working diligently to support students in the classroom and on the playground. It is our goal to create a safe and respectful environment where all students excel. During classroom rounds we are looking for focused, rigorous and engaging instruction. We are working with teachers to create positive classroom climates that promote equity and respect. During recess and lunch periods supervision is of utmost importance to us. We are actively monitoring student behavior and supporting students when conflicts arise. In an effort to keep our lines of communication open, we will be contacting families if student behavior requires us to do so.

Spring is here and the school year is flying by! We have begun focusing on kindergarten transitions and we are proud of the social/emotional and academic growth our students have made this year. When we return to school on April 8th, there will be a new preschool classroom opening. It will be staffed with a teacher and two special education assistants.

We look forward to the implementation of improvements to our facilities. It will begin with construction at the preschool pod. A new roof will be installed this summer, and, as a result, our extended school year program will be relocated to Sequoia Elementary School for this year only.
