News from Carl Sandburg Junior High
March 21, 2022
A Note from Mrs. Johansen
Dear Sandburg Community,
I hope everyone is having a safe and relaxing start to Spring Break!
Students and staff are excited about returning to eating in the lunchroom after Spring Break. As I previously shared with our school community, if you or your student are hesitant about moving back to this lunch routine, please email me. We do have a space designated for students to sit a further distance away from each other.
We are excited to see the numbers of students who will attend the girls soccer tryouts and track practices next week. As a reminder, ALL students must have a current physical on file in the health office to attend track practice AND girls soccer tryouts. For more information about athletics at Carl Sandburg please visit the D15 website: https://www.ccsd15.net/domain/2592
Congratulations to our 7th grade students for winning the class competition for our National Junior Honor Society food drive. They earned the use of their phones during the lunch period on Friday...a coveted prize for sure!
The District 15 BPAC (Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee) will be presenting a workshop on April 6th called "How to Help Children Understand Diversity and Empathy to Prevent Bullying at School." The link to the flyer is HERE for all interested in attending.
We are joining an event called "Put Plastic in its Place" during the month of April. We will have large boxes in our vestibule to collect plastic bags. An organization called "Clean Up- Give Back" will collect our bags each week. See the flyer below for the items that will be accepted.
As always, we appreciate your support!
Have a great week!
Erika Johansen
From the Sandburg Nurse
A reminder to parents - if your child has an injury or health condition that requires exclusion from gym class or extra passing time, a note from the doctor indicating the needed restrictions is required. This includes any injury requiring splints, casts, crutches and concussions. Please send these notes to the nurse on the day the student returns to school. Email- annerink@ccsd15.net or fax 847-963-7806.
Moving 15 Forward Presentation at CSJH on April 19th
We are delighted to announce that the Moving 15 Forward initiative is going on the road this spring!
Board of Education President Lisa Scuzupaj and Dr. Laurie Heinz will share the specifics of the proposal and seek feedback from stakeholders across our communities. We also will be meeting with other organizations and groups within the communities we serve.
At the presentation, you can expect to receive an overview of the Moving 15 Forward plan with a particular focus on why this comprehensive plan is focused on repairing and restoring our facilities, updating learning spaces, improving student transitions, as well as providing full-day kindergarten, enhanced educational opportunities, and the chance to learn at near-neighborhood schools. In addition, each presentation will include detailed information specific to the host school(s) that evening. All sessions will include time for questions and answers.
We urge you to attend the session dedicated to your school(s) if possible, but you are welcome to attend any session that fits your schedule.
We hope that you are able to join us in person. If you are unable to attend, please visit the Moving 15 Forward website to view the proposed plan details, videos, and a Frequently Asked Questions page.
If you have further questions at any time, we invite you to let us know via this form or email Moving15Forward@ccsd15.net. We will do our best to provide answers to your questions.
We are so pleased to be taking Moving 15 Forward on the road this spring. We value your feedback and look forward to sharing more with you about this exciting initiative.
