Presidents' Day
A message from the Assistant Principal-Mr. Lynch
Happy 100th day of school to everyone! Some of our students decided to celebrate by wearing 100 items on their shirts, while others dressed as individuals who are 100 years old. We were able to get some great photographs and students participated in many fun activities.
This week also marked the launch of an exciting new school-wide incentive program called the Great Puffball Challenge. Each week, we will be focusing on one of Suffield School’s expectations and students are able to earn puffballs when they follow those expectations. At the end of each day, students will drop their puffballs into the community jar. When the jar has been filled, everyone in the school will receive a small reward. We are asking that parents ask their children about the Puffball Challenge and encourage them to contribute to filling the community jar by following and exceeding our school expectations.
As always, thank you for your support. The incredible turnout at Parent/Teacher conferences on Tuesday is a testament to your dedication and support of our students. The faculty, staff, and I continue to be overwhelmed by the kindness of this community and we are excited to see what next week holds.
Jon Lynch
Thank you so much!
Thank you to our Suffield PTA and families who organized and donated our delicious conference night dinner! We appreciate you so much!!
5th Grade Camp - Informational Meeting - February 15th @ 7:30 pm via zoom
Although things with COVID are currently unknown and causing a great deal of issues in society, we are attempting to plan a possible camp experience for our 5th graders. Assuming things lighten up and the cases of COVID are what they were last Spring/Summer, the Fifth-grade students at Brimfield Elementary and Suffield Elementary will have the opportunity to attend camp at Camp Muskingum in Carrollton, Ohio from May 25 – May 27, 2022. The cost of the 2022 outdoor education program is approximately $145 per student. Parents and students should begin planning on this expense at this time.
There will be an informational parent meeting on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 7:30 PM via Zoom. A message will be sent to your phone on that day with the link to sign on to the meeting.
To reserve your child’s spot at camp, a deposit of $45.00 will be due before March 1st. Two additional payments of $50.00 are due before April 1st and May 1st. If camp must be canceled due to COVID, any money you have deposited will be returned to you. To attend camp, all fees due to the school must also be paid in full. Contact the secretary if you have questions regarding this.

Counselor's Corner- A Note From Miss Livers
Building confidence in our students is important. Whether your child is full of confidence or seems to be in constant self-doubt, there are things we can be doing every day to help build those feelings of confidence. Here are some ideas for families to incorporate ideas on how to build confidence. One way to help children build confidence is by encouraging them to learn and try new things. Whether it is a new sport or activity, trying something new can help students gain the confidence to continue to grow and adapt to new environments. Although they may struggle at first, once they accomplish their goals, they will feel capable and competent. Similarly, giving your child age-appropriate responsibilities, like taking care of their things, taking care of a pet, etc. can help your child feel like they can contribute to making the world a better place. Like any skill or habit you want your child to pick up on, it’s important to model positive self-esteem. Children are always watching. When you turn your mistakes into opportunities to learn, use positive self-talk, or accomplish new things, your child will feel empowered to do the same.
Also: Careers! I am looking for parents, grandparents, or anyone who is part of the Field family who might be interested in recording themselves answering a few questions about their career, job, occupation, and/or trade school experience! I am hoping to create a library of careers for our students to explore and learn about. If you are interested in participating please email me at Emilee.Livers@fieldlocalschools.org. I look forward to connecting with you!

Outdoor Recess
Temperatures are starting to drop and we would like to pass along some details about recess, so you can plan accordingly. We will go out to recess if the temperature is above 20 degrees. If you are in need of a new coat for your child, we do have some that were donated and would be happy to help your child with a new winter coat. Please call or write a note to Mrs. Bookman if we can help! We would like to remind parents that there are certain areas on the playground where snow boots are required and other areas where snow pants and boots are required during the winter months. If they do not wear the proper attire for these areas, they will have to stay on the blacktop area. Thank you in advance for your help.

Birthday Treats-MUST be prepackaged, ONLY
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.

Do you know what day it is?
We continue to use a block schedule where specials will rotate every four days. This means there is no specific day for music, art, Computer Lab, or P.E. Each class will have an assigned time and will participate in these specials in a rotating sequence. One huge benefit will be that no special will regularly be missed because of school holidays. Your child’s teacher will let you know your child’s exact schedule. Be sure to check the breakfast menu to see what “day” we are on!
