Dear HCS Families,
“The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow” when the Hinesburg Community School proudly presents the musical “Annie Jr” on Friday, November 16th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 17th at 2:30 and 7:00 p.m.
Annie Jr. follows the story of an orphan named Annie living a “hard-knock life” at The New York City Municipal Orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie dreams of being reunited with her parents and takes action to find them. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Roosevelt and finds a new family in billionaire Warbucks, personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
“Annie is a heartwarming show with an important message about the true nature of family,” said Director and Hinesburg resident, Niel Maurer. “It also emphasizes hope for a brighter future. The sun will come out tomorrow, after all.”
General admission tickets are $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for students - or just $20.00 per family - and can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Hinesburg Community School office.

CVSD Budget Survey & Board Meetings
The Champlain Valley School District (CVSD) School Board is eager to hear your thoughts about our schools as we begin the budget development process for the 2019-2020 school year. For those unable to attend the recent Community Budget Forum, please complete this 3-question survey by November 16th to share your thoughts. Some responses thus far include comments on class size, transportation, essential arts, and extra-curricular activities. What are you thinking about? Click HERE for the survey.
For a full list of upcoming School Board Budget meetings, view the flyer HERE.
Struggling with Screentime?
Struggling with screentime? Challenged by the balancing act between devices and healthy habits? It's hard to find answers that best meet the needs of your family. If you haven't already, explore the resources at Common Sense Media. They offer tips, forums, ratings (for TV shows, books, movies, video games, apps, and more,) and other great ideas that support what we're all going through. Each month, we'll also share some resources that they feature on the education side of their site. Take a look at the section called Digital Balance and Well-Being. View the items near the top and then scroll down for resources specific to various grade spans. We especially like the K-5 Family Tips: Help Kids Balance Their Media Lives. We hope you find this helpful.

Genevieve Fundraiser Pickup
The Genevieve fundraiser items are scheduled to be delivered to HCS on Monday, 11/12 between the hours of 12:00 and 2:00. Fundraiser items will be sent home with the students Monday afternoon. If the items do not come home with your student (because they are too heavy) you may pick them up at HCS after school on Monday or during the day Tuesday, 11/13.
Hearts for Hinesburg!
Many folks have been pitching in to launch a special new fundraiser for the Hinesburg Community Resource Center in November. Thank you to the many crafty community volunteers, including kids at Hinesburg Community School, who put your creativity to work for a good cause. We will be offering these unique heart ornaments at the Champlain Valley Union High School Craft Fair on Saturday, November 24 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Your suggested donation of $10 or more will get you one of these beauties and will provide support for neighbors in need of food, emergency financial assistance and connection to community. Spread the love!
Salvation Army Holiday Program
This year HCS will be supporting the Salvation Army's Holiday Program. If you are a HCS family in need of assistance, please contact the Salvation Army directly to apply for assistance. The contact information is as follows: Salvation Army of Chittenden County 64 Main Street Burlington, VT 864-6991. The Salvation Army is accepting applications in person, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, now through Nov. 15th.
If you are not able to make it during these times/days, please call 864-6991 and leave a message and the Salvation Army will work with you to set up a time to meet. In addition to a list of clothing sizes and requests for toys, families will need to bring identification for each person, documentation of income, and proof of residency when they apply.
