Traveling Mural in Art and Media

Big picture

This project in our media and art classes is about creating global connections and community with others around the world. It embodies the goal of PYP and all IB programmes, according to the International Baccalaureate Organization, to "develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world."

Before we started, we read the book "Maybe Something Beautiful" about a town that worked together to create a mural. We created our own 10 foot mural and had every class at Hayes draw a giraffe to represent our mascot to add to the mural. Some giraffes were even drawn by staff members and families! We cut the mural into 10 pieces and mailed 9 pieces to different parts of the country, all the way from Massachusetts to New York to Alabama to Texas! They did the same thing and sent back their mural pieces. We put them all together and displayed this gorgeous artwork from all 10 schools (including Hayes) in our school! With the Traveling Mural Project, we will be connecting with other school communities around the world to create murals of peace, friendship, diversity and love.

From Nutritional Services

Thank you to all students who have been eating breakfast and lunch with us. It has been our pleasure to serve you. We are looking for menu feedback from our families and students. If you have menu suggestions, please contact Katie Joyce at 763-502-5028 or katherine.joyce@fridley.k12.mn.us .

During January students will have some Minnesota grown greens from Revol in Medford, Minnesota. Please watch the menu for those days. We will also be celebrating Chinese New Year; Tuesday January 24. We will be serving an Asian Noodle Bowl at all schools that day.

Please remember to check your student's lunch account for purchases and adding lunch money to their account. If your child is bringing a cold lunch and would like a milk, remember the milk is not free even if your child is approved for free/reduced priced meals. Money can be added via the Campus Parent Portal using a credit or debit card. Check or cash can be added by turning money into your school's front office.

If your income has changed, remember that the Application for Educational Benefits can be completed at any time during the school year. The application can be found on the Nutritional Services webpage at https://www.fridleyschools.org/about-us/departments/nutritional-services/meal-applications If you have any questions regarding the Application for Educational Benefits, please contact Kathy Backstrom at 763-502-5021

January menus are posted on the Nutritional Services website. You can find a monthly pdf to print or you can see the interactive Titan menu. Please note, menus are subject to change due to supply chain issues and product availability.
