Dates to Remember
Thanks for Making Boosterthon a Success!
Counselor's Corner
Hello Amazing Parents! What an amazing month October has been! It is finally Fall and all of our students are doing a super job on getting to know friends and building relationships with their teachers. I would like to personally thank you for an amazing Red Ribbon Week! The students were able to make a pledge all week long for living healthy and drug free. In November, our state recognizes "Generation Texas Month" in which schools discuss the importance of making career choices and the impact of their educational goals. We will also have a career dress up week in addition to the many career awareness activities that the students will participate in their classrooms. This month our character focus continues to be "SELF AWARENESS." We want to make sure that all of our Bradley Bears are making positive goals to be successful with their friends and teachers. Part of being aware of yourself is to:
- Care about what other people feel.
- Know why you chose to do something.
- Check over your work and your choices.
Our Bradley staff plans to help your child this month with frequent reminders, games, and activities to build his/her self awareness and help them to become more successful at everything they do.
Notes From the Nurse
Change of Clothes:
Sometimes our students require a clothing change at school due to lunch spills, bathroom accidents or other incidences where their clothes become soiled. It is recommended that each student keep a change of clothing, and an extra pair of shoes in their backpack for these occurrences. Having these extra clothes will keep the parent from having to come to the school during the day. Also, we are taking donations of gently used boy/girl clothing to help with any unexpected accidents.
News from your PTO

Library
Dear Bradley Parents,
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Bradley! You are invited to join your child and help him/her find the books he/she will enjoy reading.
Here are some tips to consider before you visit:
· Take a look at our booklist flyer to see a sample of the great titles that will be available: https://goo.gl/RuCtpw
Many parents find it helpful to make a wish list ahead of time: http://scholastic.com/bookfairs/books
· Get a jump-start on shopping through our Online Book Fair: http://scholastic.com/fair
· Check out our Classroom Wish List of books. These are titles that I’d like to add to our class library. Refreshing our classroom library regularly gives kids a reason to keep reading.
· Download the Book Fairs app to get the latest reading level information, book trailers, podcasts, and more. It’s the perfect shopping companion, and you can also use it to purchase books: scholastic.com/bookfairs/app
I hope you can make it! If you’re interested in volunteering, email me at: mrock@conroeisd.net
Looking forward to seeing you!

Help us Save our Books!
Our library is beautiful and full of amazing brand new books. Students love selecting books during their library visits. Sadly, there have been many books returned to us with extensive water damage. These damaged books must be discarded. Fees will be charged for all wet books. You can help protect our books by purchasing a box of 2 gallon baggies for your child's classroom. Student books stored in 2 gallon baggies have a better chance of staying dry in the classroom and in backpacks!
Thank you,

Art
In Mrs. Gutierrez's class the students are continuing to work on their projects for the Western Art Show.
In Mrs. Mac's class, kindergarten and 1st Grade are learning how pictures tell a story. They have followed the five steps to create a superhero self-portrait! Ask your student about the five steps: self-portrait, superhero costume, superhero power, who am I helping and what's going on! Some students have started tracing their pencil drawings with sharpie and will begin coloring and painting soon! 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are continuing to make progress on their Symbols of Texas project. Almost everyone has moved to their "time to shine" paper and began experimenting with different mediums to determine which they would like to choose in their artwork. Ask your student which material they will choose!
In both classes students have been making Veterans Day artwork to be displayed at Woodforest Stadium for our Veterans day community celebration on November 10th. The pieces displayed will be sent to our troops around the world. 4th graders were invited to participate in a yearbook cover contest. Check your student's Friday Folder for more information! The 4th grade class with the most quality entries gets extra 30 minutes of Art time!
Thank you,
Art Teachers
Music
I am so proud of our Bradley Honor Choir for their beautiful performance of "How Can I Keep from Singing" at the Bradley Dedication on October 11. We are excited to perform again on November 7 at 8:30 am at our Veterans Day Concert. The Honor Choir and I would like to extend a special invitation to our Bradley family members who are Veterans.
In kindergarten and first grade, we have had fun singing our favorite pumpkin song, "Pumpkin Patch." Kindergarten is also practicing using their singing voices, and first grade is learning the difference between beat and rhythm.
Second grade is busy preparing for our music program based on the book Where the Wild Things Are. Students have chosen how they want to participate in addition to singing on the risers: speaking, singing, playing instruments, or dancing/playing the game. We are excited to show our parents all we have learned on Thursday, November 16 at 6 pm.
Third and fourth grade enjoyed moving artfully to Kabalevsky's "Comedians: Pantomime" as we pretended to be zombies waking up from a nap. Third grade is also practicing decoding rhythms, while fourth grade is learning to read skips and steps on the treble clef staff and play the notes on a xylophone.

The youngest Bradley Bear “Cubs” are super excited to visit P6 Farms this month. For many, this is not only our very first field trip but also a real school bus ride too! We will see all kinds of animals up close and in person. We are also now starting reading groups and learning how to read books on our very own. We will bring a special Reading Folder home with a book to practice together. Please help your child read it again and again to build fluency. As our favorite Go Noodlers say, “You gotta read with expression!”
Thank you for your continued support. See you next month!
First grade
Fun in First Grade!
October was a super busy month in first grade! We learned so much! Take a look...
In Language Arts we learned about the elements of fiction and Traditional Tales. We practiced using story elements to retell stories. We identified nouns and verbs, increased our stamina for independent reading, and added to our bank of sight words. We also practiced spelling words with short and long vowels. We've recently started guided reading groups, and we can already see progress in the children! In math, we focused on place value to 50 as well as geometry (2D and 3D shapes.) All classes are also taking time each day for math review of the units we covered in August and September to increase our fact fluency. In Social Studies we learned about Maps and Globes, Citizenship, and Community Helpers, and in Science we have been studying Light, Heat, and Sound Energy.
Our first grade charity is the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. If you are able, please send in any of the following items to your child's teacher by November 17th for donation:
- slip leashes
- kitten and puppy food (wet food)
- baby bottles for kittens and puppies
- pre-made cans of formula
- towels and blankets
second grade
We are looking forward to November because it will give us time to reflect on how thankful we are for our Second Grade Bradley Bears. We are also looking forward to all the excited things we will be learning.
- In reading we will study elements of poetry. During this unit, we will focus on various poetic devices including sensory images, stanzas, rhyme, and repetition.
- During writer's workshop, we will begin a fun unit on imaginative writing. This will give our second grade writers an opportunity to use their imagination in writing. As always, we will focus on using the correct punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure.
- In math, we will strengthen our problem solving skills by learning how to add and subtract with regrouping.
- During science, our young scientists will participate in labs to explore forces in motion including pushing, pulling, and sliding. Later in the month, we will explore magnetism.
- In social studies, we will wrap up our unit on government. Then we will learn about the importance of Veteran's Day. We will also learn about customs and traditions in our community and our country.
We are thankful for our Bradley families!
Sincerely,
The Second Grade Teachers
third grade
This month in MATH is EXCEPTIONALLY EXCITING as we kick off our Multiplication and Division unit. Our students will be delving into creating equal sized groups, finding patterns within numbers, learning divisibility rules, creating arrays and area models, and much more. Each student will begin working on a multiplication journal which will focus on new factors each week and will come home with multiplication flashcard pages to help practice those we are mastering in the classroom. What is mastered you ask? The ability to come up with the multiplication answer within five seconds of hearing the equation.
So far, our students have learned multiples of 1, 2, 5, and 10!! Their brains are hard at work preparing for this fun and exciting unit of study!! By the end of the Unit, the students will be able to solve one and two step multiplication word problems by representing their answers using all the wonderful multiplication and division strategies we will learn.
***Keep in mind, third graders will be multiplying equations such as 24 x 7, but only need to quickly recall facts up to times 10. For example, all of the factors X’s 2 are:
0 x 2 =, 1 x 2 =, 2 x 2 =, 3 x 2 =, 4 x 2 =,
5 x 2 =, 6 x 2 =, 7 x 2 =, 8 x 2 =, 9 x 2 =, 10 x 2 =
Science is moving and grooving along, and we are having a BLAST in our wonderful Science Lab! The road ahead is full of being able to think of objects which use the science principles of pushing, pulling, motion, gravity, friction, and work. In order to fully understand these concepts, we will be learning about pulley systems, wheels and axels, and how these change the amount of force to move objects from here to there! This month in Reading, the students are learning about a new genre, Traditional Literature. We will explore the different types including: fables, folktales, myths, and legends. The students will strengthen their ability to make inferences by learning the theme of each story. They will also learn to compare and contrast the different types of Traditional Literature. In writing, we will be continuing our unit in Expository Compositions. The students will continue to draft personal essays using thinking maps to plan out their writing. They will learn how to revise and edit their papers with a writing partner. We are also using a daily Mentor Sentence to help the students to focus on our writing conventions. In Social Studies, our students will learn about Government and Voting. We get to “Take a Tour” of the White House, see the different branches of state and national government, and participate in an ELECTION! Third grade teachers are hard at work creating lessons to engage the students in our government system. We will even be setting up a space so the students have the opportunity to INPUT THEIR OWN OPINION! Feel free to have conversations with your students about the importance of the Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branches of our government system, after all AMERICA IS OUR WONDERFUL COUNTRY!!
