Prestons Post
Term 4, Week 9
Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 9 newsletter. This term is quickly flying by and the amazing staff at school are busy organising all of the end of year events, planning classes for 2022, finalising reports and still continuing to provide quality teaching and learning programs for all of our students. I thank everyone for your ongoing support and understanding of the need for change during these challenging times. Please know that at all times, the learning and wellbeing of our students remains at the heart of all of our decision making.
Presentation Assemblies
Due to the current COVID restrictions, we remain unable to come together as a whole school to celebrate the achievements of our students. However, we are committed to not letting this stop us from acknowledging our amazing students and know that more than ever, our children deserve to have their efforts celebrated and recognised. Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to make some changes to our previously communicated organisation. We will be holding grade based Presentation Assemblies which will be live streamed for parents and carers to join us in our celebrations. Notes have been sent home, shared on Seesaw and Skoolbag with full details but dates and times are provided below.
Monday 6 November
- Year 5 - 9.05am
- Year 1 - 10.00am
- Year 2 - 11.10am
- Kindergarten - 12.00pm
- Year 3 - 1.00pm
- Year 4 - 2.00pm
Thursday 16th December
- Year 6 - 9.05am - We are excited to be able to announce that due to the changed times, we have the opportunity to hold a special Year 6 presentation assembly and combined graduation ceremony. Along with our planned Wellbeing Week and Year 6 Farewell celebrations we are confident that this day will be a very special day that our Year 6 students will hold fondly in their memories as they look back on their primary school days.
Wellbeing Week
As we have come out of Learning from Home and moved back to face to face learning, we recognise the challenges our children have faced. As the main focus over the past 3-4 months has been digital and online we really wanted to plan some wonderful wellbeing events for our students in the final week of school for 2021. We have planned Wellbeing Week for Week 11, this will involve wellbeing days for each class with a focus on physical education using some fun outdoor activities, including a jumping castle. Along with this, our teachers are planning on a range of social and emotional learning activities that link with our Grow Your Mind program, this includes a movie and related discussions and activities to promote social and emotional learning. Finally we have a range of engaging cyber safety activities planned for the week, this will support our young people as they move into their school holidays with plenty of opportunities for online activity. We want to ensure that our students have the toolkit to interact safely online, especially during the summer break. A separate permission note is also going home for these activities.
Planned transport industrial action
We have been informed of some planned industrial action by the Transport Workers' Union. This may or not impact some of our students who travel to and from school by bus. Please see below for communication I have received:
I am writing to inform you that Transport Workers’ Union members - Bus Drivers working for the company Transit Systems, are taking protected industrial action on Thursday, Friday and Monday.
This means Transit Systems buses driven by TWU members will be off the road between the following times:
- Thursday 2 December: 4am to 6am
- Friday 3 December: 5pm to 7pm
- Monday 6 December: 24 Hours Midnight to Midnight
We are advising School Communities that bus drivers will ensure that any passenger aboard a bus when industrial action commences will be dropped off to their destination - but we also advise that no new passengers will be picked up once the action commences.
Some further information is available below.

Staffing Update
It is with great sadness that we announce that Mrs Naicker and Mrs Marinovic have both received transfers to new schools from the start of 2022. Both of these amazing teachers are much loved and respected members of our school community and will be sadly missed. We wish them both well in their new schools and hope that there will be many opportunities for them to come back and visit.
Our Beautiful Mural
Over the past weeks our students have been excitedly watching the progress of our beautiful mural that was painted by the very talented Scott Nagy and Krimsone. What a transformation of our big blank wall. We are now waiting for the final addition of turf and seating to make this area a beautiful place for our students to learn and play.
Thank you again for your continued support during this school term.
Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget to ask your child what they are learning at school.

Classroom Chat with K Possums
K Possums have had a fun start to learning for our last term of Kindergarten. We have enjoyed playing with our friends and learning together.
We are continuing to build our confidence to write independently and enjoy creating sentences on texts we are reading. In Maths, we have been practicing counting to 30 and adding and subtracting numbers up to 20. After lunch we enjoy mediation from smiling minds to allow us to refocus on our learning.
We look forward to continuing to share all our wonderful learning achievements with you all. Miss Bates and K Possums.
