Campus Update
February 21st, 2024
Message from the Principal ...
We hope that you enjoyed your long weekend and that February has brought you some "loving" time with family and friends! Things are moving fast and furious here as we find ourselves more than half way through the third nine weeks! At the beginning of this month, Elm Grove served as a visiting campus for the FranklinCovey Leader In Me Symposium. We had over 100 visitors from all over the United States on campus to hear speeches from students and to visit classrooms! The students did a great job of showing off their leadership skills and showing their knowledge of the 7 habits. It was a great day! We will be opening our campus in a similar way again during our annual Leadership Day on March 8th! (more details below) We hope to see you there!
Safety Update: Traffic, Safety Drill (Tomorrow), Gates
Traffic
Due to the cold and sometimes rainy weather, we are seeing more cars in our pick up and drop off lines. Please remember that students are NOT to be dropped off anywhere in the parking lot except for the designated area. If you MUST park, please make sure that you safely walk your child or children to the front door via the crosswalk. While we understand that avoiding the line and dropping students off next to the crosswalk may be faster, it certainly isn't safer. Having moving vehicles in multiple areas increases the chance for accidents. Vehicles coming through the parking areas can also cause the traffic to back up as they attempt to merge back in to the line to exit. We ask that you remain in the line while dropping off or picking up your child or children.
Also, we have seen an increase of distracted parent drivers due to the use of cell phones. Please remember that cell phone use is prohibited while operating a vehicle on campus.
We appreciate your help in keeping all of our students safe!
SRP Drill - Tomorrow - Thursday, February 22
Each year we partner with our local law enforcement agencies to run an SRP (Safety Response Protocol) drill. Our drill will take place tomorrow (Thursday, February 22) morning at about 9am. These drills help us to coordinate with local first responders to make sure that we are all on the same page should an actual emergency arise. Teachers will talk about safety with the students and will reassure them that this is just a practice and they are not in any danger. Please do not be alarmed if you see several law enforcement vehicles on campus. It is just a drill!
Locked Gates
Some of you may have noticed that the gates leading to our surrounding neighborhoods now all have locks that have been provided by the district. In addition to the Whispering Hollow gates, the gate leading to the Elm Grove neighborhood will be locked during the school day. They will be locked after arrival and unlocked prior to dismissal. We hope that this does not cause any inconvenience. It is just another measure to increase the safety of our campus.
