Swim Team News
The VVHS swim team participated in the Bay City Invitational meet over the weekend and placed 4th! Coach Ryman gave the swimmers big kudos as many of the swimmers were swimming on little sleep due to so many events the night before. The team has 3 football players, a cheerleader, 2 volleyball players, and 3 band members.
"You still came out and made us look so good. I know that some of you had a difficult program with back to back races and longer yardage than you are used to and you still finished the race. So proud of every one of you".

Fine Arts Recap
Leopard Players
High School Musical was a BIG hit! In Mrs. Smith's words:
"Special thanks to our awesome VVISD administrators and Board
of Trustees for their continued support of our Theatre
Department, to our Van Vleck Fine Arts Boosters for financial
and logistical support, to the OAP/HSM Moms who always treat
us so well, to our VVHS faculty and terrific coaching & music
staff who have graciously shared kiddos with us in this
whirlwind that is fall in Texas, to our outstanding community
that has embraced theatre so completely, and last, but not least,
to our families who have happily eaten really late suppers
following night rehearsals and who have been forced to listen to
the HSM soundtrack on repeat since August.
As the Wildcats say, “We’re all in this together!”

WITI- Women in Touch Initiative
Students from Van Vleck High school were chosen to represent VVISD as new members of WITI or Women in Touch Initiative. WITI is a collective initiative to gather female perspectives and empower women to recognize their potential. Grace, Ava, and Tia were personally invited to a luncheon with Superintendent Dement, where they heard from STP CEO, Ms. Kym Harshaw.
Ava shared a little bit more about the experience:
"It was an experience to remember! There were so many powerful, successful ladies who had such bright spirits. A woman CEO at STP spoke to us while we ate. She explained her story of how she got to where she is now. She’s moved from state to state, following amazing job opportunities then landed into South Texas. She is 1 in 3 of women in the entire United States to work in the job position she is in. Her story showed me that the pathway of life is not a straight line. It has obstacles and the way to overcome these road blocks is to work hard. I am so thankful for the opportunity and hope to experience more."
Youth Leadership- Matagorda County
4 students were chosen to represent Van Vleck High School as members of Youth Leadership Matagorda County. Cadence, Tia, Tatum, and Jahrius attended their first event this past week where they toured the STP Joint Information Center and their Emergency Operations Facility. They observed an STP Emergency drill and then were treated to lunch while hearing from the Matagorda County Emergency Management Coordinator, Amanda Campos. They then toured the Matagorda County Courthouse for a tour of the building.
