Questions and Answers on Testing
Hello D103 Families!
We have been receiving some questions regarding our upcoming Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) and Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) testing. IAR testing will be taking place from Monday, May 24, through Friday, May 28, for grades 3 through 8. ISA testing will be taking place on Friday, May 14 for eighth-graders, and Wednesday, June 2, for fifth-graders. If you would like to review the testing schedules, please view the previous communication that contained schedules for both Half Day School and Daniel Wright Junior High School.
Here are some commonly asked questions about the IAR, along with answers:
Question: What if my child needs to miss a day of testing?
Answer: If your child misses a day of testing, they will not receive a score for whichever content area (ELA or Math) that they missed. There are 3 sections of the Math test and 3 sections of the ELA test. If your child misses one Math session they will not receive an overall Math score. The same is true for ELA, except the third session of ELA does not count toward the overall ELA score. Therefore, if your child were absent for the third ELA section, but did complete the first two ELA sections, they would still receive an overall ELA score. All 3 sections of the Math assessment are required in order to receive an overall Math score.
Question: Will make up testing be available?
Answer: There will not be a make up window available.
Question: Does the IAR affect my student’s placement for next school year?
Answer: No, IAR scores will not have an effect on your child’s placement.
Question: Should my child stay for the entire time each day?
Answer: Yes, your child should stay for the entire half day they are assigned to test (AM for in-person students and PM for remote students).
Question: Can my student bring a snack to school on testing day?
Answer: Please do not send your student to school with a snack.
Question: What is IAR?
Answer: The State of Illinois requires that the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) be taken in-person by all students in grades 3 through 8 and the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) be taken in-person by all students in grades 5 and 8. The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is the state assessment and accountability measure for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district. IAR assesses the New Illinois Learning Standards Incorporating the Common Core and will be administered in English Language Arts and Mathematics. IAR assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics will be administered to all students in grades 3-8.
Thank you!
