Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 21st September 2018
Reflections from Lindisfarne
Grace Darling, Vikings and Castles
I really enjoyed going to learn about Grace Darling, who was a hero who saved people’s lives. She was brave and strong and heroic. We also went to the church where we saw her family’s grave. She inspired me by how strong she was and how she risked her life to save others.
Justin Ndoro
I really enjoyed that we could spend time with our friends and play together. We learnt about the Vikings and how they invaded Lindisfarne many years ago. They took the jewels and the treasure from the monks on the island.
Oliver Cesmanis
I really enjoyed the castle at Lindisfarne because I felt it was very peaceful and calm. We got to find out new things about the ways that people used to live and enjoyed playing a game where we had to find a hidden fairy.
Nickola Kaniewska
I liked playing on a night, it was really cold so we went inside to warm up with a chocolatey treat. It was really interesting going to the priory and Grace Darling museum as we learnt a lot about the disaster.
Lola Maybank
Map skills, Beaches and wildlife
I enjoyed going around Lindisfarne using maps to help us get to places. I really like being able to use maps and enjoyed exploring each part of the island. The experience felt special as it was a great opportunity.
Harry Cobbin
At Lindisfarne I really enjoyed going to the beach. The sand was sinking beneath our feet. We had fun running and playing in the rock pools together.
Maisie Marshall
My favourite part was going to the beach and nature reserve. It was a really wonderful experience, the sand felt nice between your toes. The nature reserve was beautiful and the visit was special because you knew the wildlife island was thriving even though you couldn’t always see it.
Cecilie Mullaney
Friendship, parachutes and boat rides
I enjoyed going to the beach and doing activities with my friends because it is great to spend time with friends and people you don’t normally work with.
Aimee-Leigh Douthwaite
I enjoyed playing with the parachute. There was a game we played called sharks and lifeguards where the lifeguards have to save the people from being taken under the parachute. I was really good at the game and it was great to play a new game with my friends.
Harley Hodgson
I liked rock pooling because we found and held lots of crabs. Some of them were quite big and they were wiggling their legs.
Charley Roome
I liked being with my friends because I have never been away with them before!
Poppy Dean
Sea lions, Peace and St. Cuthbert
At the end of the trip when we were leaving we had a bus drive to Seahouses and we went to see the sealions. They were much bigger than I expected and most of them were black and white with dots on them. It was funny when they were lying on their backs and rolling over.
Lulu Lennox
Lindisfarne to me was peaceful. In the night when tourists left the island it was really quiet and we enjoyed having it all to ourselves. I liked the fish and chips they were tasty!
George Feather
My favourite part about Lindisfarne was getting in my PJs and going to bed because we get to have a cosy, comfy dreamy nap with a cuddly teddy.
Izzy Askew
I enjoyed learning about St Cuthbert. He was very special. He made his home on the island many years ago and he was a monk at the monastery.

European Day of Languages
Next week, on Wednesday 26th September, it is European Day of Languages. To celebrate, in school we will be having a special focus on Spain and the Spanish Language.
Children may come to school on Wednesday in yellow or red, the colours of the flag of Spain, instead of their school uniform. We will also be having a special Spanish themed lunch and children will be sharing some of their learning with each other.
Muchas gracias.
Pictures to follow next week!

Book Fair: Welcome to our first Friends' event. Next week from Tuesday to Friday after school, we will have our Book Fair. Please come and support us and maybe get some early Christmas presents! We will be in the playground from 3 to 3.30pm. There are books for all ages and some great stories.
Helpers Required!! Can anyone help on Tuesday to set the book cases out? You would need to be at school at 3pm, wheel the book cases out to the yard and collect the float. We could also do with one additional helper each day to set up, sell and pack away. There will be parents who have helped before to show you the ropes. Thank you, we can only run these events with parent helpers and all help is appreciated.
Annual General Meeting: We Need You!
Our Friends' group has one official meeting a year, our AGM, which is a little more formal than our usual get togethers. This meeting is necessary for our charity status. This is where we elect the chair(s), treasurer, secretary and other committee members.
This year's meeting is on Tuesday 2nd October at 3.30pm in school. Please come; you can just listen to what we have done in the last year, or get involved in any way you want to!
Without new parents, the Friends of Ripon Cathedral School might not continue. Please support your child and your school!
