Maryland

  • In 1630 the population was 2500 and grew to 53046 in 1690
  • Immigrants primarily from Europe with connections to Barbados
  • Cherokee, Chickahominy Indian Tribe, Manahoac, Meherrin, Monacan. Nahyssan, Nansemond Indian Tribe, Nottaway, Occaneechi, Powhatan, Saponi, Shawnee, Tutelo, United Rappahannock Tribe, Upper Mattaponi Indian Tribe also inhabited colonial Virginia.

North Carolina

  • Founded by the 8 proprietors in 1653
  • Made money through rice and navel stores
  • Proprietary colony
  • In 1660 the population was 1000 and grew to 7600 in 1690
  • Immigrants primarily German
  • Chowanoke, Croatoan, Hatteras, Moratoc, Secotan, Weapemeoc, Machapunga, Pamlico, Coree, Neusiok, Tuscarora, Meherrin, Cherokee, Cape Fear, Catawba, and the Shakori inhabited North Carolina.
  • Religion primarily Anglican
  • Was first joined with South Carolina

South Carolina

  • Founded by the 8 proprietors in 1663
  • Cash Crops- Rice and Indigo
  • Proprietary colony
  • In 1670 the population was 200 and grew to 3900 in 1690
  • Immigrants were primarily German and Scots-Irish
  • Catawba Indians, Cherokee Indians, Chiaha Indians, Chickasaw Indians, Congaree Indians, Creek Indians, Cusabo Indian, and the Eno Indians inhabited South Carolina.
  • Religion primarily Anglican
  • Indigo founded by Eliza Lucas
  • Was first joined with North Carolina

Georgia

  • Founded by George Oglethorpe in 1733
  • Colony originally for debtors and a buffer for Spanish
  • Cash Crop- Rice
  • Royal Colony
  • In 1740 population was 2021 and grew to 9578 in 1760
  • Immigrants came from Caribbean, Mediterranean, Europe and vast other places.
  • The Apalachee, Cherokee, Hitchiti, Oconee, Miccosukee, Muskogee Creek, Timucua Indians inhabited Georgia.
  • Religion primarily Anglican
