In Case You Missed It:
Fall picture day has been rescheduled to Friday, October 26. All fall sports will take pictures that afternoon.
Central Office will be discussing moving the first quarter NC Check In window for our district to the week of Oct 29. I will let you know as soon as I receive more information.
Thank you to Sarah Barker, Ellen Duncan, and Tonnette Wicker for their collaborative efforts to have students to create a SanLee table for the Latino Festival last Saturday. The table was inspired by "Dia de los Muertos" (The Day of the Dead). This was in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. The art work and writings are being displayed in our media center.
Thank you to Kevin Degon for coordinating a guest speaker to discuss her Native American heritage and how she carries on these traditions in our modern world.
I have been concerned with our student's lack of school pride over the last few weeks. I was blaming it on the crazy start we have had to this school year and the inability to get into a routine. But then I had a revelation last week as kids were walking past me and I wasn't familiar with most faces. We have over 300 new 6th graders and 100 additional students. We also have at least 50 "new students" from transfers in and out. This means that about 1/2 of our children have not been at SanLee for a year. Our Stallion leaders are in the minority right now. I will be talking with our Leadership Team on Monday on ideas to help get all these new students, especially those in 7th and 8th grade "Stallionized".
I presented our School Improvement Plan to the Middle School Curriculum and Instruction Committee on Wednesday afternoon. SLMS Leadership Team will be sharing this with teams after our meeting on Monday.
I wanted to give another shout out to our Stallion bus drivers. Jamie sent out a wonderful email detailing all they had helped with to overcome the lack of drivers on Tuesday. Just so you know, the teamwork that was exhibited that day is nothing out of the ordinary for them. They are constantly doing "whatever it takes" to help get our kids to and from school safely.
Nurse Chris Novak and I, along with all those that were first responders and shelter workers during Hurricane Florence, were invited to meet the Governor Cooper on Monday afternoon. He was so appreciative over everyone's efforts in Lee County to assist our community. #ItTakesaVillage
I'm glad I work at SLMS...Just a little reality check... ;)
