Newsletter Week 1, Term 2
Huirangi Primary School, Monday 2nd May, 2022
Kia Ora Koutou, Hello Everyone!
I hope you all had some time to relax and refresh over the past two weeks! The weather was brilliant, and I must admit I enjoyed a lot of time outside!
Relationships are an integral part of education, and it was great to see such an awesome turn out to meet with your child's teacher on the last day of Term One. For your child to have a voice at these initial meetings is important, as is yours. Some great conversations were had, and learning goals set for the next two terms.
I know that some of you couldn't make your session due to COVID. If you wish to book an appointment to meet with your child's teacher please do so this week. If you have any questions or concerns or wish to have a follow-up, please contact me.
As we are now under the ORANGE traffic light settings, we do still encourage mask wearing, and visitors to sign in and out of the office.
I am really looking forward to an exciting term ahead!
Ngā mihi nui,
Natalie Looney
Principal
Renaming of our Classrooms
With over 12 weeks of discussions and meetings involving all staff and the BOT we have decided to name our classes with reference to the growth/lifecycle of a plant, which is reflected in the stages of our learners. We also wanted the new class names to tie in with He Puāwai, which means 'to blossom'.
The new names will take a lot of time and practice for all of us to grasp, but we feel it is timely for this to happen. These names will be part of the new signage we will be getting later in the term.
A huge thank you to Mrs.Thomas and Charles Hunt who created this concept. Their links with Huirangi School goes back generations, so it is very fitting that their input into this ended up being significant. Ngā mihi nui ki a korua.
Our class names are:
He Puāwai-New Entrants/Reception class. Young learners blossoming into their school journey.
Māhuri-Room 1. The learners are being nurtured to grow.
Kōkihi-Room 2. The learners are beginning to grow into all aspects of school life.
Puawaitanga-Room 3. As fruit is the result of a healthy tree, the learners have developed into strong and healthy individuals.
He Kākano-Room 4. The fruit has grown and has created seeds, which are the learners, who are ready to move on and thrive in the world.
We will be sharing a classroom focus/spotlight in the coming newsletters this term.
Naumai, Haere Mai! Welcome!
We are very excited to have Ray and Jo in these roles. Both ladies come with a vast variety of skills and expertise, and we are very lucky to have them on our staff.
Today we also welcome Carter Alldridge to the Huirangi Whānau. We hope you enjoy your time at Huirangi School, Carter!
Term 2 Inquiry Learning
Term 2 Fundraising
If you are interested in ordering a load, please email: admin@huirangi.school.nz, or call the office: 06 752 0606.
Orders for firewood close on Friday 13th May at 1pm.
Waitara Junior Basketball
We won't be sending home a written note - so please talk to your child tonight and contact school via email or by phone by TOMORROW morning so we can register our teams.
School Photos
Anyone wanting siblings photos need to request a form from the school office prior to the day. Team photos for Netball [and hopefully Basketball] will be taken too - so coaches/managers/ referees need to bring in their team's uniforms to school that morning, and hopefully, stay to be in the photo!
Bayley Street Road Works
Head Lice
These pesky critters do transfer easliy from one head to another by jumping onto hair that is dangling and touching the hair on another person.... this is why we encourage all children to tie their hair up and clip fringes back - [BOYS and GIRLS]
If you do find head lice, please treat their hair before they come back to school and keep checking for nits [eggs] and combing them out. Check all other household members too please.
We have a Facebook Page!
Please do not message us via Facebook. We prefer email or phone.
School Mobile App
You will then recieve all alerts/ updates and fortnightly newsletters.
This is the best way we can effectively communicate the same message to all parents, at once.
