PTA Update
Book Fair: Thanks to all the volunteers, we had a very successful book fair, selling $8753.70 worth of books! This gives us $4376.74 in Scholastic Dollars, most of which will be dedicated to buying books for the library. About $1000 will be distributed amongst other programs in the school that also benefit from books and supplies through Scholastic. The PTA keeps none of the funds, they all go directly back into enriching our students' access to books. Next book fair will be in October 2022 most likely.
Teacher Appreciation: Thank you to Amanda Andrus and Alicia Armstrong for hosting a lovely lunch honoring our teachers. Thanks to all of you who contributed beverages, sides and desserts to accompany the tacos ordered by PTA.
Cougar Beach Party: Join us for the first ever Columbia Cougar Beach Party hosted by your PTA. Friday June 3rd from 4-7 at Lighthouse Beach Park in Mukilteo. Food! Games! Facepainting! Meet our new principal and say farewell to Dr. Eidbo! Please complete and submit this google form to let us know if you're planning to attend, so we can be prepared with enough food.

Volunteers
Mukilteo School District is once again permitting volunteers in our schools.
ALL volunteers must have current volunteer paperwork on file with the district, and be cleared prior to volunteering
We are following this guidance:
- District Volunteer Policy and Confidentiality Statement.
- Volunteer Application Disclosure Form.
- Request for Criminal History Information form. ID must be verified with this form.
- All volunteers must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
- We will start small to ensure safety protocols can be followed by limiting the number of non-essential adults in the building at any one time.
- For security purposes, ALL volunteers are required to wear a volunteer badge for the duration of activity/event.
If you are interested in volunteering at Columbia you are encouraged to pick up a volunteer packet in the office. Plan to return materials, show photo ID and proof of vaccination at the front office.
Talk with your child’s teacher about volunteer needs in the classroom.
Library Books Due by May 26
Greetings from the library!
Our last check out for the school year is next week. All books are due by Thursday May 26. Please make sure to look for missing books and turn them into the library as soon as possible. In addition to the automated messages from the district, we will be sending a reminder paper with photos of the book’s title, cover photo, circulation barcode, and due date. Books that were checked out prior to March that still haven’t been returned have been marked as lost. Books that cannot be located as we near the end of the school year will also be considered lost.
If you and your child cannot find a lost book, you may pay for the book with cash (please provide the exact amount) or a check payable to Columbia Elementary. Please turn this into the library first so we can clear your child’s account. If you pay for a lost book but find it later and turn it in, you may be eligible for a refund within six months of payment.
An alternate option is to replace the book. It must be the same title and the same type of binding. For example, a hardcover copy of Dog Man must be replaced with another hardcover Dog Man. Paperbacks will not be accepted for lost hardcovers. If you wish to provide a replacement, please email Mrs. Griffin at griffinka@mukilteo.wednet.edu first to find out what type of binding will be accepted.
If a book is returned damaged, the library will also issue a paper notification. Books may either be replaced or paid for, the same as lost books.
It is important that students are responsible for the care and return of their books. Please help your student look at home, at daycare, in cars, and anywhere you may have possibly taken books. We will also help students look in the library and in their classrooms.
Thank you!
Mrs. Griffin

From the Nurse's Office
COVID Update: You may have seen in recent news that COVID cases are increasing again, though not nearly as high as we experienced in January of this year. For our school district, positive COVID cases doubled during Spring Break and are rapidly increasing.
We have also seen an increase in symptomatic students at school. In order to slow the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses in our school communities, please
Keep your student home if they have ANY of the following symptoms then call the Nurse Hotline at 425-366-7745 for guidance and testing information:
Sore throat, runny nose or congestion, headache, unusual fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cough, fever, muscle or body aches or shortness of breath.
- Consider asking your student to mask up. We know that masks slow the spread of disease. Our Snohomish Health District is emphasizing mask wearing and urging people to voluntarily wear masks in most public spaces or crowded or outdoor settings. Our District continues to support mask wearing, though it is not mandated at this time.
Remember it is your responsibility to contact the school 24 Hours attendance line at (425) 366-2605 to report absences. Please refrain from calling the office between 8:45 - 9:05 to report an absence.
Free Meals for all Students!
Free Meals for all Students!
- Meals for all students are free of charge regardless of Free/Reduced Status for the 21-22 school year.
- We encourage you to complete free/reduced applications, as you do need that completed to receive other benefits that are available (P-EBT Cards).
- Hot food will be served.
