Celebrating PLC Success
Our feature schools this month are Dr. Phillips Elementary and Hunter's Creek Elementary. These schools opened up their practice around the work of their PLCs allowing members of the Professional Learning team to visit and collect data around the Four Pillars which were focus of our January publication:
- Mission
- Vision
- Values
- Goals
These teams are truly putting the learning gained from PLC Essentials into practice. A few of the noticings from the visit aligned to the four pillars were:
- Values (Norms) reviewed at each meeting and utilized to guide the collaborative conversations of the team.
- Goal Statements developed by team and posted in planning space.
- Collaborative conversations around the development of formative and summative assessments, and the analysis of student performance on assessments to guide instruction.
The strength of these PLCs will have a direct impact on student achievement, which is truly the "Why" of our work.
4 Essential Questions
- What is it want our students to learn?
- How will we know if each student has learned it?
- How will we respond when some students do not learn it?
- How can we extend and enrich the learning for students who have demonstrated proficiency?
These questions are the linchpin to the work of a PLC. Consider posting these questions during your collaborative team meetings to ensure that all members are working towards a common focus.
