Parent Survey for the Re-opening of Schools 2020 - 21

Shelby County Public Schools has created a Task Force for the Reopening of Schools in Shelby County for the 2020 - 2021 Season. The committee is comprised of parents, students, administrators, board members, teachers, and community health officials. The Task Force has created this survey to attain information from parents. With this information, guidance from the Center for Disease Control, Kentucky Department of Education, and local, state, and federal health officials, the task force will make a recommendation to the Shelby County Board of Education regarding the opening of school. This survey will be open from today, June 19th - Friday, July 3rd. Final decisions about the re-opening of SCPS will occur mid-July. Dr. James Neihof, Superintendent of SCPS Retires on June 30th, 2020

Dr. James, Neihof, Superintendent of SCPS, is retiring on June 30th, 2020. We are thankful to him for his innovative and progressive approach to education in Shelby County. He has put Shelby County in the forefront with a focus on mastery learning and competency-based education and led us in the creation of the Profile of a Graduate. Every decision made for SCPS put students first. Dr. Neihof has inspired us all to learn, to lead, and to live with honor and dignity. He challenged Shelby County to THINK BIG! We wish him the best as he begins a new chapter in life.

Some of Dr. Neihof's other accomplishments include:

* The creation of the Strategic Leadership Plan - the long-term roadmap for all teaching and learning in Shelby County.

* The implementation of a digital conversion, which put a device in the hands of every student in the District.

* The rededicated focus of our organizational mission and vision.

* The establishment of Thinking Strategies as the primary content delivery method for all schools

* The hosting of Thinking Strategies Institutes which uses our lab classrooms to inform best practices to other educators around the region

* The construction of Martha Layne Collins High School and Northside Early Education Center

* The reconstruction of Southside Elementary

* The construction additions to the Area Technology Center and the Blair Center

* District-wide AdvancEd Accreditation

* District-wide Proficiency status as determined by state accountability measures

* "High Progression" distinction at two elementary schools and one high school

* A four-year span of balanced budgets which resulted in a “No increase” recommendation of local taxes

* The addition of Health Infomatics, Infomatics, and Aeronautics career pathways

* Project Lead The Way certified programs at both high schools (engineering and biomedical sciences)

* Added robotics PLTW program to both middle schools

* District-wide Energy Star status

* Participant in the Kid-Friendly Personalized Learning Grant - the largest Race To The Top Grant Awarded $41 million

* Annual acceptance of at least one student into the Gatton Academy

* Continued growth in students accepted into the Governor's Scholars Program, the Governor's School for the Arts, and the Governor's School for Entrepreneurs

* Continued growth in the number of students taking Advanced Placement exams

* Elementary school recognized as an Exemplar Response to Intervention (RtI) School

* Agriculture Program recognized in the top 10% academically in the state

* Lead the creation of personalized, 3PT, and Accelerated Academies at every school

* Creation of Parent Academies offered each year

* The addition of a Big Picture Learning Academy as a school choice

* The creation of the state's first District Workforce Development Liaison

* Instrumental in earning a $3 million grant for Workforce Development

* Created one-of-a-kind Dual Enrollment partnership with local college

*The Construction of the Marnel C. Moorman School, a K - 8 School with a 21st Century Design
