Principal's Message - WES is a Busy Place

So we have all survived February, from my perspective it feels like it didn't even occur and here we are already half way through March. In this edition will be celebrating our Academic Team's success, highlighting our 3rd grade Author Study, learning about our 4th grade trip to Frankfort, giving a breakdown of our Healthy Food's Week, and informing you of the many of the other events that will be occurring over the next few weeks.
For you basketball fans out there March Madness begins on Thursday, I would argue our madness has already begun and we are loving every minute of it!

Academic Team Flexes Their Muscle

It seems like forever ago, but back on February 28th your Woodfill Academic team finished 2nd place overall in the District Governor's Cup Competition. Governor's Cup is the season ending tournament for local schools' Academic Teams. Each year these schools compete in the areas of math, science, social studies, humanities, and quick recall. What makes this years accomplishment so impressive is that our team overcame a 4th place finish in the quick recall portion of the tournament but still managed to finish 2nd overall. Meaning our students did so well in the other areas to be 2nd overall. This finish is truly a testament to the hard work of our coach Mrs. Kelly Smith and the outstanding academic achievement of our students. We couldn't be more proud of them. This week many members of the academic team will be traveling to Southern Elementary in Pendleton County for the Regional Competition. Good luck Wildcats!
Regional Competitors:
Written Composition (Molly Baumer & Elanor Todd), Math (Charlie Gorman & Oliver Harris), Science (Oliver Harris), Language Arts (Caden Fraley & Elanor Todd), Arts & Humanities (Molly Baumer & Brooklynn Anderson)

Events Around Woodfill

Relay for Life

Our Woodfill Leadership Team is excited to announce our next big initiative. As a follow up to our very successful recycling campaign we have committed to participate, sponsor a team and help spread the word for a wonderful event; Relay for Life. Relay for Life is a community walk at Tower Park to support the American Cancer Society. Last year was the first year this event was held in Ft. Thomas and is was a tremendous success. Our 3rd grade classes along with other Ft. Thomas schools decorated over 100 luminaries to line the path of the walk for the night time walk to help create a beautiful setting. This year the theme of the walk is "Superheros". Our leadership team came up with the idea of sponsoring a team, "Woodfill Cancer Fighters". You can join our team by selecting the link below and signing up for a minimal donation and join us on May 8th. Or you can be a virtual walker and simply donate to the American Cancer Society. Our goal is to raise $1,000 as a team and with all the support of the Woodfill community we think we can reach our goal. In addition to signing up for the walk our leadership team came up with the idea of selling capes to be worn during the walk. These capes will be on sale for $5 from 3/23-26 in the cafeteria each morning from 8-8:30. We would love to see students, parents, teachers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, entire families wearing these capes the night of the walk. All proceeds from the sale of the capes will go towards our $1,000 goal for the American Cancer Society. What a great way to show that Woodfill is supporting this wonderful cause. Please consider being a part of this event, our leadership team thanks you.

Taft Theater Update

On February 18th our primary students were scheduled to attend the Children's Theater at the Taft Theater in Cincinnati. Due to the bad weather during that stretch of time his trip was canceled. In an attempt to give our students this experience we looked into attending their spring show however, there are no tickets available for a group of our size. Therefore we are exploring bringing a group onto our campus from either Children's Theater or the Cincinnati Museum. Either way please know that we will provide our students with at least one on campus experience to make up for this lost opportunity. For the parents who signed up to chaperone you will be getting a notice before spring break explaining your options on how you will be refunded. Thank you for your patience as we worked on a solution to the difficult weather we experienced last month.
