Hartman Happenings

Counselor's Corner

The holidays can be fun filled and full of anticipation. It can also be a time of great stress for many families. As a parent, I always get especially concerned at this time of year that my children will be greedy and forget the true meaning of Christmas and giving to others. As I was reading and exploring some ideas I thought you might be interested as well. Here are five tips that you may find helpful.

1. Start with the basics. Children can look the giver in the eye and say thank you when they receive a gift.

2. Teach your child to give. They can make a gift, go shopping with you, and also use their own money for a small gift.

3. There are many volunteering opportunities. Have your family partake in one of these opportunities. Children learn the most by watching us and copying our behaviors.

4. Time is valuable. Give your child your time. They will be a better person for it and you both will have memories that last a lifetime.

5. Set realistic expectations. Remember that they are still children and teaching and guiding them takes time.

Parenting is the hardest job in the world! Keep giving it your best and know that we are here to support you.

Relationship Day

Wylie ISD Relationship Day was Wednesday, December 2. Kids need guidance at different times to help them grow in a safe and supportive environment. The Hartman staff wanted to celebrate the great relationships we have with your Cool Cats. Here at Hartman, we believe that positive relationships truly have the ability and the power to unleash untapped potential in our students. Relationships and instruction are not an either-or proposition, but are rather an incredible combination. Research tells us this combination will increase engagement, motivation, test scores, and grade point averages while decreasing absenteeism, dropout rates and discipline issues.

Tennis Shoes in December

We are asking that your student wear tennis shoes to school during the month of December. We have many schedule changes due to special events, therefore your child will have a varying rotation schedule. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

Gift Cards for Hartman Staff

Thank you again for your overwhelming generosity in providing each staff member with a pie for Thanksgiving. We would like to extend a thank you to Hartman staff in December by providing a $5 gift card to each staff member. If you would like to participate please send a gift card to school by Thursday, December 17th.

Mornings

Please keep in mind that our doors don't open until 7:00 every morning. The mornings are cold and students are not supervised until 7:00. We want all students to be safe so please make sure your student is not getting to school too early. When you drop your student off please use the drive through road or park in a parking spot and walk your student to the crosswalk. We appreciate your support in keeping all Cool Cats safe!

2nd Grade Rock Museum

Each second grader researched a specific rock. They created a museum where every student told facts about their rock while families walked through the museum and listened to each student. The evening concluded with Dr. Eric Best sharing some of his rock collection and interesting facts. Dr. Best is a Wylie ISD teacher, and has been a professor of geology at Collin College and a NASA researcher.

Holiday Store

Hartman PTA will be hosting a holiday store on campus December 7th-11th, 8:00am-3:00pm. The store is available so that students may purchase small gifts for their family and friends. December 10th at 5:00pm your student will have the opportunity to have their picture with Santa as well as hot cocoa.

Congratulations to Kate Nelson for being selected as the Jimmy John's Student of the Week!
