US Merchant Marine Academy Athletic Scholarships
The USMMA is a full scholarship, Division III college right outside of New York City, on Long Island. The athletic program offers 27 varsity team and intramural sports. Visit http://www.usmma.edu/academy-life/athletics for more information.

Prom money is due March 14th. The cost is $60 per person. You may give your money to Mrs. Daniel or Mrs. Bell.
Prom Attire Guidelines:
Girls Dress Code:
1. Excessive cleavage is not allowed.
2. Dress may be backless as long as it is not cut below the waist.
3. Navel may not be exposed.
4. No pinning will be allowed as an alteration for a dress if, without the pinning, the dress does not meet dress code.
5. Dress should not be excessively short or pulled up when dancing.
Boys Dress Code:
1. Suits or tuxedos should be worn.
2. Shirts must be buttoned up to the second button from the collar.
3. Pants should fit properly on the hip and not sag below the waistline.

The band is selling microfiber bed sheets from the Elson Company now through March 12th. These are very high quality sheets, offered in 11 different colors and all sizes, including XL Twin and California King - perfect for dorm rooms! all sizes are $39. Please see any band student for more information or to order.
Registration materials for current 8th grade students will be distributed Monday, March 10th and Tuesday, March 11th. Students will receive their recommended core courses, a high school course catalog, and other pertinent information needed to create a four-year plan. Completed forms and plans are due Thursday, March 20th and Friday, March 21st. Please complete this process with your child and provide a parent signature on the final plan. The Junior Optimist Club is sponsoring a Roll in the New Year toilet paper drive for Manna House. We We will be taking toilet paper through Friday March 7

Musical Theatre auditions will be after school on March 7th in the black box. Students need to have a musical theatre song memorized and blocked and all students must provide their own music. The music should be instrumental.

Any girl interested in trying out for football competition cheer is invited to attend tumbling classes with us at Huntsville Gymnastics on Thursday evenings. This is open to any girl in 8th-11th grade. Cost is $12.50 per session with a one-month commitment required. Contact twray@madison.k12.al.us for more information.
Spring is on the way, and our Learning Community will be spending more time outside. We are in need of used tennis rackets, tee ball equipment, or other sports equipment to use for their activities. To make a donation, contact kodom@madison.k12.al.us .
Vocal Ensemble auditions will be held March 12, 2014 after school. All HGHS students are welcome to come audition. The only requirement is that you must be able to read music.There will be a written exam on music theory. You may come to the choir room to sign up for an audition time.

All students are required to have a current athletic physical on file in order to try out for any sport. Huntsville Hospital Sports Center will be conducting physicals at MVMS on Monday, April 28th from 5:00-7:00pm, and at HGHS on Monday, May 5th from 4:30-6:30 (or whenever finished). The cost at both will be $10, and a copy at HGHS will be provided for parents. Please note that physicals signed by a chiropractor, RN, or LPN will no longer be accepted by AHSAA. All physicals must be signed by a MD or DO (orthopedic doctor).
The ACT Plus Writing assessment will be given to juniors on April 23 during school. Students should be preparing for the test by using the ACT Online Prep website that all juniors received a personal user name and password to. Student Writers: Due to misinformation posted on Huntsville Literary Association's website (www.hlahsv.org) about the closing date for the high school writing competition, HLA has decided to extend the deadline for submitting short stories, poem, and artwork to Monday, March 24. HLA sincerely apologizes for any difficulties this may have caused students wishing to enter the contest.
Challenge Leadership Program Class 20 will host two sessions again this Summer:

West Point's Summer Leaders Experience (SLE) applications will be open to juniors through April 11th. SLE is a great week of academic, military, and physical excellence. The program consists of daily morning physical training, academic classes, afternoon sports, a day of military training, administration of the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA), a West Point tour, and social functions. The academic program features workshops and class samplings from the Academy's curriculum. All participants are housed in the cadet barracks and meals are in the Cadet Mess. US Naval Academy Summer Programs - Summer STEM program is designed for rising 8th-11th graders who are interested in pursuing education in the science, technology, engineering and math fields. The Summer Seminar program, designed for rising 12th graders, gives students the opportunity to find out if they have what it takes to be a midshipmen. Huntsville Hospital Athlete of the Week – Recognition for students who not only excel as athletes but also excel in the classroom and in the community. Applicants must be seniors with at least a 3.5 GPA and include a photo with the application. Athlete of the Year will be chosen from the Athletes of the Week to receive a $1000 scholarship. The Calhoun Warhawks are a 15-25 member group of students selected each year to serve Calhoun Community College as student hosts and hostesses. Members are chosen through an interview/tryout process. Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend - Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.
1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.
2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.
3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.
Juniors Have Free Access to ACT Online Prep - All juniors received a personal user name and password to the ACT Online Prep website. This is a great resource to be used in preparing for the ACT Plus Writing assessment which will be given to all of our juniors students on April 23 during school. First Priority/FCS meets every Tuesday morning at 7: 20 in the Choir Room. All students are welcome to attend.

Recycle: Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.

Driver’s permit: Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.
