Below is a note from Christine Watson, UHS Librarian, regarding National School Library Week!
Special thanks to Ms. Watson and Ms. Fullmer (library associate) for all they do to engage students and staff in "all things" related to our LMC (Library Media Center) and beyond into our classrooms!!
"April 7th-13th is National Library Week 2019, when we promote the LMC as a place of learning, engagement, and belonging. The theme this year is "Everyone Belongs" @ your School Library. We have planned a series of activities (listed below) for students to participate in throughout the week.
General Activities: NLW19 coloring pages and dot-2-dots as usual, LEGO build challenge, collaborative 3Doodler art project, Green Screen photo booth, collaborative Raspberry Pi project, and several art projects to brighten up the LMC space with student art.
Monday: Library Trivia Challenge *prizes
Tuesday: Book trailers played all day (Great time to encourage students to get a book for ISASP testing)
Wednesday & Thursday: Code.org challenge FlappyBird Coding*prizes
*We will have the large touch screen board out for students to try
Friday: Photo Gallery Showcase
April Book Displays: Disabilities, Diverse Authors, Miss Watson's Favorites, Miss Fullmer's Favorites, and Technology

This week Monday, April 8th, is a Day 2. Tuesday, April 9th, is a Day 1. Block days are a Day 2. Friday is a Day 1.
UHS Silver Cord planning Meals from the Heartland packaging event!
All UHS students and staff are invited to join us at an all-school service event in the UHS Commons on April 24. We will be packaging 30,000 meals to feed hungry people in Iowa and all over the world with Meals From the Heartland! Shifts are available from 1:30-6:00 pm, and no training is necessary. Senior graduation and senior pictures
UHS graduation for the Class of 2019 will be on Wednesday, May 29th, at 7:00pm at the Drake University Knapp Center.

Meningococcal Vaccine Requirement for Class of 2020
IMPORTANT: All 12th grade students need to show documentation of receiving the meningitis vaccine prior to the first day of school on August 23, 2019, or they will not be allowed to attend school or participate in any school related activities, including sports. Please read the information below for more details and contact our UHS School Nurse with any questions.
Meningococcal Vaccine Requirement
Seniors – fall 2019 - Class of 2020
The state of Iowa requires that all students entering or transferring into 12th grade and born after September 15, 1999, will need to provide vaccine documentation of two doses of the meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY). One dose of the meningococcal vaccine is required if the vaccine was administered when the student was 16 years of age or older.
We encourage you to contact your healthcare provider and make an appointment to complete the meningococcal vaccine requirement and/or Tdap booster requirement soon. Please forward documentation of the completed vaccines to our school nurse when the requirement is completed. Thank you!

Post Prom - DONATION and VOLUNTEER - sign up info
I'm sending this out on behalf of our volunteer parents who are organizing Post Prom again this year.
Hello Junior and Senior parents! This year "We're Rolling out the Red Carpet" for your students! The 2019 Post Prom Event will be held at UHS on Saturday, May 11th from 11pm until 4:30am. It's sure to be a night filled with food, prizes, and lots of fun, but most importantly a supervised and safe night! Please get your students registered now! See attached registration form for more information.
Also, please consider donating and/or volunteering to help make this event a success! Post Prom is ran soley by parent volunteers, donations, and registration fees. Vocal Music Garage Sale and Bake Sale is April 13!
The Vocal Music Garage Sale and Bake Sale is on Saturday, April 13 from 8am-2pm in the UHS Commons. We invite you stop by and check out all of the bargains, treasures and goodies and help support vocal music at Urbandale High School!
We will be accepting donations for the garage sale on Friday, April 12 from 3:30pm-6:30pm. Please feel free to contact Kari McLaren at kjmclrn@gmail.com or 515-238-3482 with any questions regarding whether an item will be accepted. Also contact Kari to arrange large item pick up. Arrangements for item pickup must be made by Wednesday, April 10.

Booster Club -- Spring Apparel order
A new line of Spring J-Hawk Apparel is here! This spring we are providing an e-flyer, meaning orders are all placed online and will be bundled and sent to the high school after production. Please check out the new items at https://urbandalespring.itemorder.com/. The order deadline will be April 7th at 11:59pm. Orders will be filled and available for pickup in the Activities Office at the high school 2-4 weeks from the deadline. Email communication will inform you of exact pick up times.

UHS Boys medly qualifies for Drake Relays! Boys and Girls to host home invite!! Boys and Girls soccer, Boys and Girls tennis all have wins as seasons get started!!!
Congratulations to the relay team of Joshua Neyens, Ian Neyens, Harrison Waylee, and Jay Marcotte for winning the 1600 meter medley at Dowling Thursday night. They met the BLUE standard to automatically qualify for the Drake Relays. Great job!!
The Boys and Girls track teams will host the Gary DouBrava Coed Track Invitational on Tuesday, April 9th, at 4:30pm! Good luck, J-Hawks!!
Both Boys and Girls soccer teams each picked up wins this past week as their season got underway! Great job! They play at home this week on with the Boys playing on Monday and Girls on Friday! Good luck, J-Hawks!!
The Boys and Girls tennis teams picked up wins last week and head into this week with home matches at Walker Johnston Park on Monday and Tuesday for the girls and Thursday for the boys. Good luck!
The Girls Golf team will host it's first home meet of the season at 2:00pm at Urbandale Golf and Country Club. Good luck, girls!
UHS National Honor Society inducts 48 new members!
On Sunday, April 7th, the UHS National Honor Society inducted 48 new members to it's chapter! The event was attended by family, friends, staff, and community members. Urbandale Mayor Bob Andeweg was the guest speaking, talking on the four core values of NHS: Character, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service. Congratulations to all!
Special thanks to current NHS members and teacher sponsor, Mrs. Forristall and Mr. Dirks, for all their work preparing for this event and that they do all year long!

Mock Trial of UHS students do great at State!
The competition marked the end of successful high school mock trial careers for seniors Anna Perdue, Lindsey Ingraham, Jacob Sammon, Aditya Kotla, Aleka Hickman, Laura Parsons, Josie Tyler, Varun Vepa and Audrey Krukow. In addition, the team included sophomore Shay Kent.
