February in Student Services

What is going on during February?

As always, the counselors are here to address any personal/social concerns that students have and we handle these issues as they arise. We also try to plan for student success as much as possible. Below are some of the things that will be going on this month. Please be on the lookout for registration packets- they will be sent home on February 1st!

  • Feb. 1- Registration packets sent home with Freshman and Sophomores.
  • Feb. 5- Registration packets due back to Mrs. Mosley in Student Services. Forms should be completed and have a parent signature, we will review course selections and make recommendations if changes are needed.
  • Feb. 8-17: Sophomore registration appointments (appointment times will be posted for students in the cafeteria). Students will meet 2:1 with their counselor.
  • Feb. 18-26: Freshman registration appointments (appointment times will be posted for students in the cafeteria). Students will meet 2:1 with their counselor.

February Coffee with the Counselors

Thursday, Feb. 4th, 7:15am

NCHS Media Center

Come enjoy free coffee from Dilworth's and talk with the counseling staff. This meeting will cover NCAA eligibility and NCHS extracurricular activities (previously scheduled for our January meeting) but also feel free to bring questions about anything! This is a time for us to help YOU navigate high school parenting!

If you have suggestions for a monthly topic, please leave a comment in the section below or email them to me at lacee.jacobs@cabarrus.k12.nc.us

Registration Info- What you need to know.

Registering for classes can be a stressful time, but it shouldn't be. The first thing I want parents to understand is that this is a team effort! We are here for your children, we will not let them choose the "wrong" classes, and we WILL make sure they have everything they need to graduate (and yes, that includes the ever-intimidating career cluster)! We ask parents to look over student's course selections first to make sure you are on board with their decisions about academic rigor (ie- on level vs. honors vs. AP classes) and also their elective courses. PLEASE SIGN their registration form PRIOR to the appointment.

During our appointments we will be reviewing students transcripts, discussing future plans, and determining whether they have selected appropriate courses. We may offer suggestions to students, but we will never force a student to take a class they don't want (unless it's a graduation requirement) or stop any child from taking a class they do want (unless they have not met required prerequisites). If we strongly believe that a student has selected a class that is not right for him/her, we will contact you and may require parent permission before enrolling them.

Please remember that these are course requests. This does not guarantee that your student will get the classes they have requested. For this reason, we ask students to choose at least two alternate courses.

Also, we will have a period of time to request changes later in the semester and then again over the summer, however students should take these requests seriously.

HUGE NEWS! To date, our current senior class has earned over 4.7 MILLION dollars in scholarships! Congrats! This group is well on their way to meeting their record breaking goal of 5.4 million!
