Principal's Message
Good morning Barbieri Families,
It's SHOWTIME! I hope to see you all this upcoming weekend at the HONK! performances open to public on Saturday and Sunday! (please see the detailed schedule below and link to purchase tickets.) We are so excited to see the cast and crew finally get to perform after all of their hard work! ALL Barbieri students in grades K-5 will be able to enjoy in-school performances this week! This ensures that all students are able to see the show if they are not planning on joining us this weekend.
Today, Monday 3/20, students in grades 3-5 will partake in an infrastructure trial for MCAS testing. Here is an explanation of an infrastructure trial directly from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. "An Infrastructure Trial is an opportunity for our school and students to prepare for MCAS computer-based testing (CBT) by simulating test-day network utilization. This “dress rehearsal” will help to confirm that all testing devices are properly configured, that school and district networks can handle online testing, and that staff members are familiar with their role in administering an online test. This trial is also an opportunity to introduce students to TestNav and practice using the online tools." Please know that students will NOT be scored for this, it is only PRACTICE and it will only be for approximately 45-minutes.
Que tengan una linda semana todos,
Maria

Barbieri Drama Club Presents: HONK! 🦆
El Club de Teatro de Barbieri Presenta: HONK!
Barbieri Drama Club presents HONK! JR. a delightful re-telling of Hans Christian Andersen's classic The Ugly Duckling. After being ridiculed by his father DRAKE, his family, and his neighbors because of his odd, gawky looks, UGLY leaves the barnyard in search of happiness, only to be pursued by a hungry CAT. Lonely and afraid, Ugly must find his way home, with only his loving mother IDA searching for him. On his journey, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out that being different is not such a bad thing to be.

MCAS Year 2023
MCAS Message for Barbieri Families Grades 3-5
During MCAS testing season please ensure that your child has a good night's sleep and full breakfast! Please remember that breakfast is available at school for all students! ALL STUDENTS SHOULD ARRIVE TO SCHOOL ON TIME!
STE- Science Technology and Engineering
ELA- English Language Arts

During testing ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE PROHIBTED. This includes cell phones and apple watches, etc. Please be sure that you discuss with your child that if they chose to still bring these devices to school they will need to give these devices to their classroom teacher/testing proctor BEFORE testing begins and they will receive them AFTER the testing session has ended. This is a non-negotiable. If any device is set off (rings, vibrates, etc.) during testing we risk having to invalidate tests.
Thank you for all of your support at home and for understanding!
Message from our Wraparound Coordinator
Hi Barbieri Families,
I wanted to remind you all that Wraparound services are available to families here at Barbieri School. For those who are unfamiliar with Wraparound services, it is a family-driven, team-based process for planning and providing support and strategies for success. Through the wraparound process, the team creates a plan designed to meet the unique and holistic needs of the family. These services include connecting families to community resources here in the Metrowest area. Each wraparound team comprises the youth, the parents/caregivers, and community partners, who regularly meet to implement and monitor the action plan.
To receive these services, families must fill out a Wraparound referral. I will be attaching the link below to do so.
If you have questions regarding Wraparound services at Barbieri, please feel free to email me, Rebecca Salguero, at rsalguero@framingham.k12.ma.us or call me at (774) 410-3775.
Thank you all, and I look forward to connecting!

Read Across America MONTH!📚📕📗
Dr. Lauren Foley, Bilingual Literacy Coach
Ms. Luz Vallejo-Spillane, Bilingual Reading Teacher, Grades K-2
Ms. Margaret Fawley, Bilingual Reading Teacher, Grades 3-5
Hi everyone,
Read Across America falls on March 2nd. However, here at Barbieri, we are celebrating reading throughout the whole month of March!
As a school, we will see if we can get to 50,000 minutes of reading this month!
Since the character trait of the month is confidence, we will work on building confident readers! To celebrate this, our spirit day on March 31st will be to dress to impress and strut with your favorite book!
As a class, please keep track of the amount of time you are reading (read aloud, independent reading, etc.). Keep track on your reading thermometer! Every week, the minutes across the school will be tallied for a sum of the week.
At home, please tally your minutes on your calendar. Prizes will be given out to classrooms and individuals who are reading the most!
Barbieri students continue to build their confidence! So far, Barbieri students have read nearly 10,000 minutes in their classrooms! As a reminder, please let Margaret, Lolo, or Lauren know weekly how many minutes your class has read so we can update our reading thermometer.
We are 20% of the way towards meeting our goal!
Character Trait of the Month: CONFIDENCE
Our March character trait is CONFIDENCE. Take a look at some great activities like positive affirmations and writing prompts in this month’s Smore. If you haven’t had a chance, take a look at the Positive Affirmations related to confidence.
SPIRIT DAY: Dress to Impress! 👗👚👖👟
Wear the clothes that gives you the most confidence!
Lleva la ropa que te da mas confianza en si mismo!
