A Memo from Mrs. Doss
The leaves are changing colors and we are entering the first days of November. It has been beautiful weather so far this year. Our students have enjoyed a variety of outside activities in October, such as Walk and Bike to School. They have also taken part in our Wellness Wednesday with Dr. Miller using our Walking Trail at GBE.
We will continue to look for ways to help our students keep that Wellness Mindset they are developing while at GBE. Coach Taylor has had a huge hit with his morning wellness time for grade levels too!
We love to see our students excited to start their day here. As a staff, we feel the changes made to the start of our students' days has helped them feel like more of a community and given time to ease into their school day. I know the teachers and staff feel like these adjustments have helped them develop routines and norms for their students in the morning.
Our Student Advisory Committee has been sharing out the morning announcements each morning with Mr. Samuel. We love how this gives the students someone other than an adult's voice to share vital info with them each a.m.. We have some possible radio announcers in the making! :)
One new twist that the MAP Team and Administration has added to the morning announcements is a weekly math challenge for all grade levels. We are using this time during announcements to have our Students pose a problem of the week for each grade level. This is also up on the teacher's smart boards each morning for them to review and try to solve for that week. Each Friday the Student Advisory Committee announces the solutions and always uses math vocabulary that is important for our students academics when sharing out the solutions. Our thought is that this time will give them some extra math concentration in a fun and challenging way, while enriching them with math vocabulary.
We are also now using our Study Island Computer Program to focus on Math review and enrichment. Mrs. Buxton works closely with each grade level to determine each week what essential learning outcomes need to be covered for classes. Kuddos to our teachers and staff for this work!
Each of you also received the Study Island Log In card when attending conferences last week. Please make sure to have your student log in and practice at home. Each time they log in and practice there are levels and ribbons achieved. Mrs. Buxton and I are going to work closely together each month to look at our highest ribbon winners at each grade level to offer an incentive. We will have a monthly kickball game with the students that have earned the highest number of blue ribbons through Study Island. Whoop! Whoop!
As you can tell we have many things in the works at GBE! We are excited about the Growth Mindset we have seen in our students when facing new challenges each day. Whether this be tackling math problems or working on fitness goals our kids are moving into a new way of thought that helps them achieve! This is truly an exciting time to be a GBE Spartan!
Thank you for all you do as our partners in education-
