SHOUT OUTS...
Mrs. Parks says....
Shout out to Mr. X, for modeling during the content meeting on Monday! It takes a high level of vulnerability and humility to share and get feedback in the moment of a lesson that you’ve prepared! I respect his disposition and his receptiveness to the feedback. It is going to make the world of difference in his classroom!
Shout out to Ms. Brown, for modeling expository writing and holding scholars to high academic and behavioral expectations in Ms. Thomas’ class on Monday! I think that this is super important for Ms. Thomas to see and identify what it looks like to execute with high levels of engagement! I appreciate all that you are doing to ensure our scholars are successful!!
Shout out to Ms. Mercadel, for modeling the testing strategy of utilizing text based evidence to support answer choices! This was soooooo powerful for scholars to see, and even more impactful that Mr. X, was able to emulate the process!! I am super excited about where we will go from here and how much deeper our scholars will think because of all of the hard work you are already putting in!!!
Congratulations to Ms. Pietroboni for being a "top hat" recipient!

A Message from the Director
Greetings Dream Team-
This week, in alignment with the theme of gaining perspective, I leave you with, "My Shoes"
My shoes have traveled miles of roads
Their soles are worn quite thin
Struggling with this heavy load
I carry deep within
Beyond repair, no longer shine
Scuffed with many stains
It's mostly been an uphill climb
Some sunny days, some rain
A little big when they were new
With ample room to grow
This green stain here on my left shoe
Was puberty's first blow
Those salt stains there, that's sweat and tears
Still damp from being heartbroken
They've darkened some throughout the years
Old wounds that were reopened
There are no stains from happy tears
I finally understood
Obviously they disappeared
Right after parenthood
All these scuff marks 'long the sides
Well they're from clumsiness
From times I fell and hurt my pride
A reminding subsequence
They've danced and skated, loved and dated
Walked a few high wires
Death devastated, been mismatched
Even walked through hell's hot fires
It's said that one can tell a lot
By looking at one's shoes
Until you've worn these shoes I've got
You really have no clue!
Perspective is everything. You have no idea until you do.
How are you committed to gaining perspective before you respond to a situation? How will you prepare yourself? Perspective matters!
The Dream Team Will Fight!!
Sincerely,
Director Parks

A Message from the Social Counselor
Greetings Dream Team!
I hope you all are well and I know you are looking forward to Thanksgiving break! This week I have had the pleasure of speaking with our 6th and 8th graders about resiliency. Scholars were very reflective and I know it is because of the work you all do in the classroom. Listening to the scholars’ reflections reminded me of the challenges they face and how resilient they are. Many of them wrote sweet notes for our gratitude wall about the opportunities they have gained in education. Please see sure to stop and read them as some of you have a shout out.
Also, Thursday, November 15th is our monthly VIP meeting with parents. Kiah Wesson (High School Counselor) and I will be presenting on bullying procedures as this month is Uplift’s Bullying Awareness month. If you would like to suggest any topics, please send me an email. I’d love to hear from you all!
As a reminder, if a scholar needs to speak with me, please make sure that they complete a referral form. The forms are located outside of the library, above the MS water fountains, and outside of my office. If it is truly an emergency, please call or text me at 214.552.7533.
Thank you all for the work that you do and the impact that you have on our scholars!
Best,
Kelsi Jackson
Social Behavioral Counselor
VRT Information!
November Virtual Roundtable
As you know, the last Wednesday of most months are reserved for Virtual Roundtables, facilitated by CTLs under the direction of our CC team. We have realized that the VRT for the month of November (Wednesday, Nov. 28th) was left off the schedule. In talking to the CC team, we have identified a need to add this session back for the purpose of norming the constructed response section of CA 2 prior to grading. Teachers without a network CA 2 will not be required to participate in this roundtable. If this creates a major conflict for already planned PD, please reach out to your MD to problem solve.
Recurring Performance Assessments
As we head into Quarter 2, we also want to provide some clarity around grading & submission expectations for MYP recurring performance assessments. This will be especially relevant for our arts, PE, and CTE/tech teachers, who will be executing their RPAs by the end of the semester. CTLs will communicate these points to their cohorts, but we ask that you also review and share with your teachers to reinforce expectations:
· Grading: RPAs should be included in PowerSchool as a major assessment grade for the quarter in which they are graded. All scholars in grades 6-10 should receive an RPA grade in English, Spanish, humanities, math, science, CTE/tech, fine arts, and PE every year of the MYP.
· Scholar Work Submissions: Teachers will be asked to submit a minimum of 3 graded scholar work samples via Blackboard after the RPA is completed. These samples will include copies of the work and the MYP rubric(s) with the teacher’s scoring & feedback. The Curriculum Team will set up assignments on Blackboard for these submissions and CTLs will communicate deadlines to their cohorts. In the meantime, teachers should retain copies of exemplar/higher-scoring scholar work as they complete their grading.
· Semester Courses: Teachers of semester courses who complete the RPA in Quarter 2 should repeat their RPA in the spring if they will have a new cohort of scholars. Ultimately, all scholars should complete 1 RPA for every subject each year.
· For example, a PE teacher with a semester-long course will execute her RPA in both Quarter 2 (as planned) and again in Quarter 4 with her new cohort.
The exception to this is HS government & economics, where the same scholars generally transition from one course into the other, usually with the same teacher. In this case, only 1 RPA should be completed over the course of the year.
DATA DASHBOARD
A brand-new network assessment dashboard is now available. This dashboard will refresh throughout the year to include data from our two network assessments (TWA and CA).
An admin version of the dashboard can be found here
