Eastside: The Greatest School
"No one ever made a difference by being like everyone else."
Week of January 7th
Eastside Mission & Vision
Working in partnership with the community, Eastside Elementary will provide all students:
A collaborative team of professionals who are committed to improve their practices, so that all students learn at high levels
A safe, positive, and inviting learning environment
An engaging and challenging curriculum focused on essential academics and life skills
Individualized and timely support that provides students with what they need to succeed
Fresh Start
Take time to reconnect with your sweet kids first thing Tuesday morning. This should be a quick activity, so you can jump into the learning. Be mindful of those that didn't get lavish presents or go to far away places. You might could share a small thing about your break and talk about how the little things can sometimes mean more to a person than anything else. I know that is true in my life!
I will save all of my inspiring thoughts for Monday at 2:45!
We're in the News!
Ask the Kids about the book they read over break!!!
3rd Grade created Cookbooks and used the money from donations to purchase Angel Tree gifts!
Details for the Week
Monday
- See everyone at curriculum day. Refer to the agenda I sent out for specifics. Make sure you have all the materials it has listed to bring. Technology will be available there. We will start promptly at 8:30. You may wear jeans (NO HOLES). We will meet up together as a staff at 2:45 in the STEAM lab to end the day and get inspired for the new year!
Tuesday
PROWL starts up! I will share out the new PROWL list. I am so proud of all of you using the data to make the new groups before Christmas. The enrichment groups will take some time to work the kinks out, so everyone please be patient. For Tuesday, the only enrichment groups up and running will be kinder, 1st, and newspaper. All other students will be in the PE building. Mrs. Manning and I will be over there to help get them organized for Wednesday. We will need all support staff without a group in the PE building to help. This includes Mrs. Turner, Ms. Newkirk, Mrs. Cardin, and Ms. Gordon. We will dismiss all enrichment groups to their classes at 8:18. These students are to wait outside their classroom door until 8:20 when the intervention groups are dismissed.
Reconnect with your students and get back to business. Maximize instruction time.
Make sure to review expectations and procedures. One thing to be sure to review is our Behavior Matrix. This is posted in all classrooms. We have also digitally shared the large matrix with you earlier in the year on the Google site. There is virtual playground rules that you can go over as well. Kids must be reminded of the expectations. Mrs. Manning and I will be meeting with 3rd grade to go over our expectations of them. We will discuss a specific time with their teachers.
Refer back to my email that Mrs. Manning and I sent out prior to break for DIBELS. If you have any questions, let Mrs. Manning know.
Any student who did not receive their holiday book as a gift from us make sure to send it home with them today. If you need additional copies, check with the office.
Wednesday
- Solution Tree's Project Planning day with Mrs. Bailey and Dennis King - They will need to meet with the leadership team for one hour. I haven't been given a time of when this will be. Everyone be prepared to be flexible to make this happen.
Thursday
- Team Meetings with content schedule
Friday
- Panthers on the PROWL assembly at 8:00 in the cafeteria - more information about this in team meetings on Wednesday. If you have any safari attire, go ahead and get that ready for Friday.
- Recess meetings to discuss data and individual students
- Lil' Dribblers perform at 6:00 PM at the Panther Pavilion. Make plans to come out and see them sometime. They have several performances coming up. We have a large number of dribblers and Coach Winn and her helpers are doing great things with them!
Important News:
Thank you to everyone that sent reading materials home over the break! You all were a true cohesive team making this happen. I look forward to hearing the success of this!
If you are a support staff member and you have a sub, please place on your sub plans about going down to the classrooms during intervention time to support the teachers. However, subs will NOT do interventions. The subs will not leave the classroom they are assisting. (For example, if I am a sub for Mrs. Satterwhite. I will see on Mrs. Satterwhite's plans to go help kinder and 5th grade at certain times. When I get to those classrooms, I will help in those rooms, but the classroom teacher will not send kids with me outside the classroom.)
ACT Aspire Interim 2 starts next week. Mrs. Manning and Mrs. Hogg are working on the schedule.
We will have special visitors with us on February 1st from Greenwood School District. They want to tour our school and hear about the Solution Tree Pilot. They are in cohort 2 of the PLC Pilot and are curious about our growth. They will be with us from 8:30 - 10:00. For this reason, we will push back the Spirit Day to February 8th. This will be a celebration of January and February, since we will not have spirit day in January.
SIT commenting starts back this week with any staff member working with kinder through 2nd grade. Make sure to place the date in the date column. Then place your name in front of your comment in the teacher comment column.
MAP PM will start up next Friday for K-2.
K-2nd grade need to update AMI assignments and let Mrs. Manning know when you have done so. 3rd-5th will upload to google classroom if we have an AMI day. I will always instruct when to send packets home for those students who do not have internet access.
Enter lunch counts by 9:00 am
Classroom doors should remain locked throughout the day.
Please make sure to have lesson plans out on your desk and reading lesson plans on your reading table each day. Your reading plans need to be a week's worth of complete plans that are ready on your first day of instruction. We understand that you may adjust things, but the plans must be thoroughly thought out for the week prior to the week starting.
