The Other Education
Dear Cougar Family,
During last week's district cross country meet, I witnessed selflessness and teamwork at a level that is not often so boldly illustrated. Please take a moment to look closely at the pictures in the gallery above. These images were captured by one of our Cougar parents, Desha Walley, who graciously allowed me to share them with you.
At the end of the race, Jake Hough was spent. He began to stumble toward the finish line, his body giving out on him, so close to helping to ensure his team's 5th district championship since our school's inception. But no matter how much he tried to move his body with his mind, his legs eventually gave out on him, and he fell to the ground. All of us on the sidelines were cheering, willing him to get up, to take those last few steps, when his teammate, Will Heye, ran up behind him. Without hesitation, he reached down and lifted up his brother and teammate, quite literally dragging him across the finish line alongside him before Hough collapsed again.
It was beautiful. It was a moment I will not soon forget.
And as with almost everything in life, it makes me contemplate our jobs as educators. Cross country is a paradoxical sport--individual rankings that compile to make a team score. Sometimes teaching is similar. We go into our classrooms, shut the door, and we're on our own; individuals shaping the hearts and minds of the students we teach. We talk a lot on our campus about teamwork and family, and I truly believe that both words aptly describe who we are at CSHS. Therefore, as we go through this week, I urge you to take special consideration of those around you--colleagues and students. Are they comfortably striding through their "race" or are the spent, having poured out all they can of themselves? And if you notice someone stumbling, will you keep your stride and move on past toward the "finish line" or will you lean down to lift up your fellow Cougar?
The stretch between Columbus Day and Thanksgiving Break can be a tough one. Let us take care of one another, just as the two students in the pictures above so eloquently illustrated through their actions. Social/emotional learning is just as important as academic learning, and we teach our students these skills by modeling them ourselves.

Character, Outstanding Leadership, Understanding of Others, Goal-oriented, Academic Excellence, Responsibility, Service. At our core, this is who we are. May you live the Cougar qualities every day!
And as always, COUGAR PRIDE!

Accepting ARD/504 Invitations & Attending the Meetings
Our ARD and 504 secretaries along with Mrs. Reismeier use the calendar invitations to confirm who is attending a given meeting. It is IMPERATIVE that you mark YES in the calendar invite because that alerts all parties of your attendance and any need for a possible sub to cover your class. Even if you don't use your Google calendar, PLEASE mark YES.
It is a requirement according to professional ethics and responsibilities that the requested teachers attend these meetings. The only issue that should prevent someone from missing is an emergency illness or off-campus event in which you are not at school.
