THE GREAT EXPERIMENT
“…A REPUBLIC, IF YOU CAN KEEP IT.”
- Ben Franklin
The formation of the United States of America has often been referred to as "The Great Experiment." Upon exiting the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin was asked "what sort of government did the delegates create?" he simply replied.."A republic if you can keep it."
He knew the fragility of this new found nation but he believed in the voice of its people and a government represented by it. That is why I was in D.C. this week.
While I was serving ACSI in D.C. this week I had the opportunity to engage with several of our nations leaders on the topics of School Choice, Religious Freedom, and Female Sports on behalf of the schools I represent in Arkansas. Additionally, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the National Public Policy and Advocasy Summit where I was blessed to hear from some of the top people in their field on the subject of education.
Politics and education have become symbiotic over the last few years in the State of Arkansas (they always have been; however, it has become more overt recently). Over the last three years
I have inserted myself into the political arena to advocate for Christian Schools and to ensure that we have a voice in this political/educational process. I was blessed with the opportunity to help advise Gov. Sanders team when the LEARNS Act was being written, etc. My goal is to continue to build relationships with our state and national leaders so that I can maximize our impact on education legislature.
From this summit and speaking with various politicians the main item that we need to understand is that the next two years of state and national politics are very important for education. We must be engaged, informed, and have our eyes open.
There will be a time in the future that I am going to ask our families to write letters to representatives, senators, and the Gov. Office to thank them and encourage them on some specific items, etc. (when I do I will send information out or a template). Our school and other Christian schools across the state are going to need to step in unity on common areas that we agree. I am also evaluating quality lobbyist who can make connections daily at the capitol.
We are truly in some unique and exciting times and we are blessed to have great leaders in the state of Arkansas. Additionally, we have a lot of great legislation in place that our school and families are benefiting from. However, the work begins now to ensure that we are able to keep those legislative pieces in place and look forward to new ones.
John Adams once said: “The foundation of every government is some principle or passion in the minds of the people.” “How long will the American republic endure?” Lowell replied: “As long as the IDEAS of the men who founded it continue."
We must keep our passions and principles known to our political leaders!
Lead NWA well this week!

SECONDARY CHAPEL
This week at Secondary Chapel, our students had the unique experience of hearing a panel discussion led by Dean of Spiritual Development, Matt Stewart. The panel was made up of the Cross Students Ministry Associates, Paige Bryant, Kendyll Garvin, and Katie Howe.
A few key takeaways to ask your students about:
-Each panel member shared a little about how they came to a relationship with Christ. Ask your student what stood out to them the most?
-Kendyll mentioned that "You will look like who you surround yourself with." Challenge your students to apply this to their friendships.
-Paige talked about sacrifice and that often we are asked to sacrifice "good things" in order to grow in our relationship with Christ. Ask your student what this might look like in their life?

HIGH SCHOOL HISTORY TRIP!
PRESIDENTIAL VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD
Congratulations to Junior Reese Jones and Sophomore Avery Coleman, who recently received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, for each serving over 115 volunteer hours through local non-profit organizations during the 2022-23 school year.
The President’s Volunteer Service Award is a civil award, given by the President of the United States. Established through an executive order by George W. Bush in 2002, the award was established to honor volunteers who give hundreds of hours per year helping others.
Reese and Avery received the certificate in the attached photos, as well as a letter from the President of the United States, thanking them for their service to their community. Reese and Avery currently serve as board members in the NWA chapter of the National Charity League organization, which they joined in 7th grade and will continue to serve through 12th grade. Through this organization, they lead and mentor others, serve their community, develop social awareness and compassion, while modeling integrity, graciousness, and excellence.
Reese and Avery are not only very involved in their community but are also active in Shiloh’s CLA program, school and club sports, all while performing well academically.
Congratulations Reese and Avery!
